A hog roast near Quidhampton

How our wedding hog roast works in Quidhampton

Not every guest eats pork, so we plan for that: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers and a vegan option. We don’t offer halal meat. Popular choices include new potatoes, rotisserie chicken and crackling, and typical bookings are for the day after the wedding and marquee weddings.

Near Quidhampton, weddings are often in fields, barns or gardens. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen needed, just an outdoor cooking spot. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we will give you the allergen information for every dish before you book.

Quidhampton: your questions answered

What’s the nearest station to Quidhampton?

Quidhampton has its own station: Overton station.

We are gathering after a service at Church of St Mary: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is usually served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Do you come to Quidhampton?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, Quidhampton and the rest of Hampshire included. Send us the address for a quote.

What’s the price?

Every booking is quoted individually, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Ask us for a quote.

Do you bring plates?

We bring plates as standard. If you’d like china, ask and we will add it to the quote.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is often possible, with the venue’s agreement.

Can we have both pork and lamb?

Yes, spit-roast lamb can go alongside the pork.

Do we need to provide electricity?

No, the roast is cooked on gas. Tell us what’s available and we’ll plan around it.

About the food

Spit-roast lamb

Spit-roast lamb is popular alongside the pork, and handy for anyone who does not eat pork.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Salads, new potatoes, coleslaw and roast or jacket potatoes turn rolls into a full meal.

What affects the price in Quidhampton

There is no fixed price list, since every event is different. The main factors are:

  • The date and time of year
  • Plates or china
  • How long the roast and service take
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken

Distance is part of the price: travel is included in your quote. Give us the address so the quote is accurate.

Getting an accurate quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • Your date and serving time
  • Allergies we should know about

For a quote, send us a few details: your date, your venue or postcode, how many people and any menu choices. Fill in our quote form.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a cold evening buffet, hot rolls carved to order go down much better. The main driver is numbers: the price per head generally falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

What you get with us

  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • No surprises: everything in writing
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
  • Served at the time you choose

See our pricing or what a hog roast costs.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Allergies and dietary needs

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Remember that stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately

Running late? A slow roast can wait a little. Just keep us informed.

Salads, new potatoes and roast potatoes make a full wedding breakfast.

Organising for someone else?

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Ask early, and pass on anything they need from us.

If you’re a venue or event planner, we’re happy to work alongside your team, sharing timings and a site plan.

What the cooking area needs

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, so a few things are worth checking:

  • Lighting for evening service
  • A way in for the roaster
  • A level, open cooking spot outside the marquee or barn

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, worked back from your serving time. Golden-hour photos in Quidhampton at midsummer come around 9:25pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:55pm, and in late September about 7:10pm.

  1. Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We fit timings around your running order.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. We serve, tidy up and slip away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
