Wedding hog roast in Shide, slow-roasted on site
For the wedding breakfast, a hog roast becomes a plated meal: roast pork, crackling and a choice of sides, on china if you’d like. For vow renewals and blessings and marquee weddings, we can cook halloumi skewers, carved roast pork and crackling and more.
In Shide, a local ceremony and a marquee reception is a lovely, personal choice. The roaster cooks a safe distance from the marquee. Tell us about access to the field or garden. We bring the people to serve and clear up, so nobody in your party has to serve.

Common questions in Shide
Could you cook in Seaclose Park?
Only with permission from the park’s owner, typically the council, and many parks don’t allow cooking. Check with them first.
Can you roast near the sea around Shide?
Yes, of course. We roast under cover and choose a sheltered spot where we can.
How big a hog will we need?
The roast is chosen to suit how many you are feeding, so a good estimate matters. We’ll confirm the menu in the quote.
What about guests who do not eat pork?
Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. Please note we do not offer halal meat.
How do we prepare?
The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We’ll bring the rest.
Where will the roaster go at our wedding?
The roaster stays outdoors on level ground, and we agree the spot with your venue.
How much does a hog roast cost?
Every booking is quoted individually, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Tell us about your wedding for a quote.
Do you do evening food?
Of course. We will agree a serving time around your running order.
Catered or do it yourself?
Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.
A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Stuffing and apple sauce
Sharp, sweet apple sauce and savoury sage and onion stuffing go with the pork perfectly. Note that stuffing typically contains gluten.
What a hog roast costs
Here’s what affects the price:
- Time on site
- How many people are eating
- Crockery choices
- Which meats and sides you choose
Numbers make the biggest difference: bigger groups usually cost less per head, since much of the cost is fixed.
What we need to know
A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what’s useful:
- Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
- Any dietary needs or allergies
- Which meats and sides you’d like
- The venue or postcode
We price every booking individually, based on numbers, menu, timings and distance. Tell us about your wedding for a quote: send us your details through our quote form.
How it works
On the day, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. It then roasts slowly for several hours, worked back from your serving time. Golden-hour photos in Shide at midsummer come around 9:20pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. Sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 7:10pm in late September.
- Choose the main meal, the evening food or both.
- We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
- The venue and we agree where the roaster goes.
- We set up and roast for hours.
- Our chef carves and the team serves and clears.
Getting ready for the day
- Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance

Planning help
Allergies and dietary needs
A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Here’s how to cover everyone:
- Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten, so check the allergen list
- Request gluten-free rolls if needed
- Confirm final numbers a week or so before
- Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card
We’re on site for much of the day, working quietly in the background.
Lamb alongside the pork gives guests a choice.
Working with your venue
Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before booking. We will work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.
