Wedding hog roast in South Stour

Wedding hog roast in South Stour, slow-roasted on site

Wedding timings shift, and a slow roast copes well: a cooked roast holds for a while, so the food copes with a delayed running order. On the menu are halloumi skewers, new potatoes and salads, and we’re frequently booked for post-wedding gatherings and marquee weddings.

There’s something special about a country wedding near South Stour, and a whole hog roasting through the afternoon adds to it. Plan a firm route in, especially if it rains. We bring the people to serve and clear up, so nobody in your party has to serve or tidying up afterwards.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:

  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Note which guests do not eat pork, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Collect dietary needs with RSVPs
  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed

For evening food, we carve as the dancing gets going, timed with you in advance.

Some couples add lights around the serving area; tell your venue or marquee supplier.

Is a hog roast right for your wedding?

Next to other evening food, a hog roast serves a crowd quickly once carving starts. Compare like for like: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

How we price a hog roast for your wedding

Things that change the price:

  • Menu choices and extras
  • Distance from us
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Numbers

Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote. Tell us the exact address for an accurate figure.

What we need to know

When you enquire, it helps to include:

  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
  • Your menu choices
  • Any venue rules
  • Roughly how many people

Every quote lists the menu, the serving time, staff and plates, so you can compare caterers fairly. Use our quote form.

The process

We cook on a gas-fired roaster, so we don’t need mains power to cook. For a summer wedding in South Stour, the sun sets at about 9:15pm in late June and about 7:00pm in late September, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 3:50pm.

  1. Tell us whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. You get a quote listing menu, staff and plates.
  3. We confirm the cooking spot and access with the venue.
  4. We set up and roast for hours.
  5. We carve and serve, then clear away.

Preparing for the day

  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Name a contact for the day
