Wedding hog roast for Swanwick

Diets, allergies and alternatives

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Give your coordinator the final menu
  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed
  • Note which guests do not eat pork, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice

Give us your venue coordinator’s details, so we can sort the cooking spot and timings with them.

How our wedding hog roast works in Swanwick

A slow roast suits a wedding day that runs late: it can be held for a while once cooked, so a long speech will not ruin the food. On the menu are new potatoes, carved roast pork and rotisserie chicken, and we are frequently booked for weddings in a family garden and wedding breakfasts.

A wedding in a small place like Swanwick frequently means a field, a barn or a family garden. That is where a hog roast shines: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. Timings are planned around your wedding, working back from when you want to eat, so the food is ready at the right moment.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

If your venue does its own catering, check whether you can bring in a hog roast. There may be a fee. Numbers make the biggest difference: the price per head normally falls as numbers rise, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Why book with us

  • Our staff serve and clear
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests

Swanwick: your questions answered

How far is Swanwick from London?

About 67 miles from central London, and well within our area.

What about windy coastal sites?

Yes, of course. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t provide halal meat.

Is mains power needed?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Let us know what’s on site.

Can you do gluten-free?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Stuffing generally contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Do you serve the food?

Our chef carves and our staff serve, and we clear up when service is finished.

Can we add a second roast?

Add lamb or rotisserie chicken alongside the hog.

Do you clear up?

We clear the serving area and pack away, leaving the spot as we found it.

Planning the cooking spot

Planning the cooking spot is the key. Check these:

  • Serving inside the marquee or barn if allowed
  • A route to wheel equipment to the spot
  • Permission for outside catering

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

Prices and what affects them

Every booking is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • Season and day of the week
  • Plates or china
  • The number of people
  • The journey to the venue

What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

Getting an accurate quote

To check the date and the space, we will need:

  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • Allergies we should know about
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • The date and time of the event

It’s easy to get a price: date, place, numbers and serving time. We will reply with a clear price and what’s included. Send us your details through our quote form.

For planners, venues and organisers

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Tell us what you need and we will tell you what we can send.

If you are planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We will keep everyone in the loop.

Roast pork

We carve as we serve, so it stays hot and juicy.

Stuffing and apple sauce

Apple sauce brings sweetness and sharpness go with the pork perfectly. Note that stuffing typically contains gluten.

The process

From setting up to the last roll, we look after the food, so you can enjoy your wedding. At midsummer, sunset in Swanwick is about 9:20pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. Sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 7:10pm in late September.

  1. Tell us whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
  3. We confirm the cooking spot and access with the venue.
  4. We set up and roast for hours.
  5. We carve and serve, then clear away.

How to prepare

  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
