Slow-roasted pork in Test Valley

Wedding hog roast near Test Valley

Not every guest eats pork, so we plan for that: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers and a vegan option. We don’t offer halal meat. For the main wedding meal and weddings in a family garden, we can cook salads, crackling and spit-roast lamb and more.

Near Test Valley, weddings are frequently in fields, barns or gardens. That is where a hog roast shines: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Let us know about access and ground. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, slowly, over several hours, and carved only when you are ready to eat.

FAQs for Test Valley

We are gathering after a service at Church of St James: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

Is Test Valley too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

What space does the roaster need?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, well clear of walls, tents and branches. We’ll confirm the space with your quote.

Who serves?

Our chef carves and our staff serve, then clear the serving area afterwards.

Do you do evening food?

It is one of our most popular wedding bookings. Hot pork rolls are perfect late in the evening.

Can you cater in Test Valley?

We do. Send us the address and we’ll check the date.

What if things run late?

We work back from when you want to eat, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is often possible, with the venue’s agreement.

Catered or do it yourself?

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Organising for someone else?

Marquee suppliers generally set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

For workplace bookings, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We work to the site’s rules.

How the day works

Serving is straightforward: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. At midsummer, sunset in Test Valley is about 9:25pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. Sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 7:10pm in late September.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue.
  5. We clear away once everyone has eaten.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Some couples have a formal meal and a hog roast in the evening; others have the hog roast as the main event. UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. Every event gets its own quote, with everything listed.

Why Test Valley hosts choose us

  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Sides to make it a full meal

Take a look at our prices page and the cost guide.

What affects the price in Test Valley

Every booking is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Crockery choices
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Travel to Test Valley
  • Season and day of the week

Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so we list each one in the quote. A simple menu keeps the cost down.
