Wedding hog roast in Tiptoe

Wedding hog roast near Tiptoe

For the wedding breakfast, a hog roast becomes a plated meal: roast pork, crackling and a choice of sides, on china if you’d like. We’re frequently asked to cater barn and farm weddings and intimate weddings, serving new potatoes, carved roast pork and spit-roast lamb.

Rural weddings around Tiptoe have a magic of their own, and slow-roasted pork carved for guests adds to it. Plan firm ground and a route for our vehicle. Tell us about dietary needs and allergies when you enquire, and we will tell you exactly what’s in each dish.

How it works

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, with the sides served alongside. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. In Tiptoe, evening wedding food often coincides with dusk: about 9:25pm at midsummer, 8:55pm in late May and 7:10pm in late September. A few lights by the serving table help guests and photos alike.

  1. Tell us whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. You get a quote listing menu, staff and plates.
  3. The venue and we agree where the roaster goes.
  4. We set up and roast for hours.
  5. We carve and serve, then clear away.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Name a contact for the day
  • Ensure we can wheel the roaster to the spot

What a hog roast costs

There is no fixed price list, since every event is different. What matters most:

  • Plates or china
  • Distance from us
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Numbers

For larger numbers, a hog roast is normally good value, since one roast goes a long way. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.

What to tell us

For a quick, accurate price, tell us:

  • Roughly how many people
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Where the event is
  • Any dietary needs or allergies

For a quote, send us a few details: your date, your venue or postcode, how many people and any menu choices. Use our quote form.

Choosing a hog roast caterer

Tiptoe questions

We are gathering after a service at St Andrew: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

What about windy coastal sites?

Yes, of course. We roast under cover and choose a sheltered spot where we can.

Is mains power needed?

The roaster runs on gas, so we do not need mains power to cook. Power can help with lighting after dark.

How much will it be?

Each event is priced on its own, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Tell us about your wedding for a quote.

Do you come to Tiptoe?

We do. Send us the address and we’ll confirm availability.

What happens after service?

We pack everything away after service, and we take our equipment with us.

Is a hog roast enough for a wedding?

Quantities are based on your guest list, and the quote lists everything.

Can you do gluten-free?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Full catering or machine hire?

You could go for a cold buffet, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Organising for someone else?

If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

Planning on behalf of a committee? One clear contact makes everything easier, especially on the day.

Planning for dietary needs

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. Here are a few tips:

  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before
  • Collect dietary needs with RSVPs
  • Count non-pork eaters, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Give your coordinator the final menu

You will not have to think about the food. We roast through the afternoon and carve at the agreed time.

Some couples add lights around the serving area.

Before you choose a spot

Before the day, it helps to think about where the roaster will go. The ideal spot has:

  • A serving area close to where guests eat
  • A level spot near, but not too near, the marquee
  • Approval from the venue or marquee supplier

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly.

About the food

Rotisserie chicken

Chicken off the rotisserie, carved or jointed can be served in a roll or on a plate alongside the pork.

  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
