A hog roast near West Town

Wedding hog roast in West Town, carved to order

We look after guests who don’t eat pork: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers and a vegan option. Halal meat is not available. We are often asked to cater anniversary vow renewals and barn and farm weddings, serving crackling, rotisserie chicken and salads.

Weddings in a place like West Town frequently feel personal: a local church, then a marquee in a garden or field. The roaster cooks a safe distance from the marquee. Tell us about access to the field or garden. You will know what’s included before booking: the date, the serving time, the menu and the plates, with no surprises on the day.

Catered or do it yourself?

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.

The menu, dish by dish

Spit-roast lamb

Lamb roasted on the spit is a lovely alternative to pork, especially for guests who do not eat pork.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

A hog roast roll is designed to be eaten in the hand. We can bring gluten-free rolls if you ask.

How it works

Expect a calm, organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, use the cooking spot you’ve chosen, and roast, carve and serve without fuss. In West Town, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:05pm, so evening food is frequently carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 4:00pm.

  1. Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then quote.
  3. We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon; our chef carves on cue.
  5. We serve, tidy up and slip away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Give us a contact number for the day
  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before

Why choose a hog roast in West Town?

A common mix is a plated meal followed by an evening hog roast; others make the hog roast the main meal. Midweek and quieter months are frequently easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Ask us and we will suggest the best fit for your budget.

West Town: your questions answered

Can you cater after a service at St Mary's Church?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is generally elsewhere. Send us the address.

Which station is closest to West Town?

The closest is Fratton station, roughly 3.8 miles away.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

We’ll be as flexible as we can. Keep us posted on the day and we’ll adjust.

How do we prepare?

Only the space and a contact number. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.

Do venues allow outside hog roasts?

Check with the venue first: some welcome outside caterers, others don’t. We will sort the details with them.

How much does a hog roast cost?

Every booking is quoted individually, depending on numbers, menu, timings and travel. Tell us about your wedding for a quote.

Can we just hire the roaster?

Yes, we hire out the hog roast machine. We’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

What’s included?

Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Your quote lists any sides and extras.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

You will get allergen information for everything we serve. To make the most of it:

  • Count non-pork eaters, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before
  • Give your coordinator the final menu

We’ll liaise with your venue coordinator, for access and timings.

Add spit-roast lamb for a second roast.
