Hog roast or traditional caterer?

Event catering in Bakers Arms, cooked on site

Some caterers need a kitchen; we bring our own cooking to you. That means almost any outdoor space in Bakers Arms can work. Popular choices include spit-roast lamb, halloumi skewers and hog roast rolls with crackling, and we are regularly asked to cater weddings and evening receptions and wakes.

In Bakers Arms, we cater in gardens, yards, playgrounds and office courtyards. With neighbours close by, we pick a spot that keeps smoke and heat away from windows. Tell us about dietary needs and allergies when you enquire, and we’ll tell you exactly what’s in each dish before booking.

Spit-roast lamb

With lamb as well, there are two roasts to choose from, which suits bigger events.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Add salads, coleslaw and potatoes to make it a proper meal, especially at a sit-down event.

Why choose us as your caterers in Bakers Arms?

Next to a traditional three-course caterer, we are more relaxed and need no kitchen. Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so we list each one in the quote. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

Why book us in Bakers Arms

Bakers Arms: your questions answered

What’s the nearest station to Bakers Arms?

The closest is Leyton Midland Road station, roughly 0.5 miles away.

Can you do a hog roast in Leyton Jubilee Park?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, normally the council, and many parks do not allow cooking. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

Do you cater weddings and work events?

Everything from weddings and parties to staff days, fêtes, wakes and film sets.

Do you cater large events?

Yes: a hog roast is ideal for large numbers, and a barbecue can be added. Tell us your numbers and timings and we’ll plan the service.

Is crockery included?

Plates are included. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.

Do you work with wedding planners and venues?

Of course. Give us their contact details and we’ll sort the practical side.

Do you come to Bakers Arms?

We do. Tell us the venue or postcode and we’ll confirm availability.

How much will it be?

Numbers, menu and travel decide the price. Tell us your date and we will send a price.

What the cooking area needs

Planning the cooking spot is the key. A quick checklist:

  • Space to serve as well as cook
  • Somewhere dry for guests to eat if it rains
  • Clearance from walls, tents and overhanging branches

As a London location, Bakers Arms is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: let us know how we reach the cooking spot and where we can park.

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly.

The process

We cook outdoors under cover, so a shower won’t stop the food, though your guests will want shelter if it rains. Around midsummer it stays light in Bakers Arms until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so most summer events eat in daylight. By late December, sunset is about 3:50pm.

  1. It starts with the occasion, the date and the venue.
  2. You get a menu suggestion and a quote.
  3. We arrive ahead of service and set up on the agreed spot.
  4. At serving time, the chef cooks and the team serves.
  5. Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.

Preparing for the day

  • Name a contact for the day
  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Some ideas:

  • Tell us how many vegetarians and vegans to expect
  • Find out who avoids pork so we can plan lamb, chicken or beef
  • Keep the meat-free options clearly labelled
  • Tell us about children’s numbers

A hog roast starts hours before serving; a barbecue is cooked through service. We plan our timings from when you want to eat.

Salads, coleslaw and potatoes turn rolls into a full meal.

For planners, venues and organisers

If you are a venue or event planner, we’re happy to work alongside your team.

How we price your catering

Each booking is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • Crockery choices
  • Travel to Bakers Arms
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken

Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. Every event gets its own quote, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

Details that help

Good details mean a good quote. Please include:

  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • The venue or postcode
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Your date and serving time
