Hog roast or traditional caterer?

How our event catering works in Shoreditch

Unlike kitchen-based caterers, we cook outdoors at your venue. That means almost any outdoor space in Shoreditch can work. Whether it’s community fun days and corporate days, we can cook rotisserie chicken, pulled pork and salads for your guests.

For a London event in Shoreditch, tell us about steps, gates and parking: where we can unload, and how we reach the cooking spot. We will take it from there. Your quote spells out what’s included: serving times, the menu, staff and anything else agreed, with no surprises on the day.

What we serve, dish by dish

Spit-roast lamb

Adding lamb gives people a choice of two roasts, which works well for larger groups.

BBQ ribs

Sticky, glazed ribs are the messy treat of the menu; have napkins ready.

Planners, venues and businesses

For events on land you do not own, such as a park or field, you’ll need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

If you are organising for someone else, whether you are a planner, a PA or on a committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We will keep you both updated.

Hog roast, BBQ or something else?

Next to a row of food trucks, a single caterer means one menu, one queue and one point of contact. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Why us?

  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Staff to serve, so you don’t have to
  • Hog roast and BBQ menus
  • Planned to your running order

Read our prices page and how the two menus compare.

Shoreditch questions

What catering costs

We don’t use a fixed price list, since every event is different. The main factors are:

  • Distance from us
  • Season and day of the week
  • The number of people
  • Crockery choices

Compare like for like: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

What to tell us

Here’s what we will ask:

  • An estimate of numbers
  • The address or postcode
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Dietary requirements

Every event is quoted on its own, because numbers, menu, serving time and travel vary. Tell us about your event for a quote: use our quote form.

The process

A hog roast is cooked before serving and carved to order; a barbecue is cooked as people come up. Either way, we serve and tidy up. In December, sunset in Shoreditch is about 3:55pm, so plan lighting and somewhere warm to eat.

  1. You tell us the date, the venue, rough numbers and the kind of event.
  2. We suggest a hog roast, a barbecue or both, then send a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive in good time and set up under cover.
  4. Our chef cooks and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Before we arrive

  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance

How to get a price

Planning help

Planning the cooking spot

Planning the cooking spot is the key. Check these:

  • Somewhere dry for guests to eat if it rains
  • Space away from buildings, marquee walls and trees
  • The venue’s agreement for an outside caterer

As a London location, Shoreditch is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: let us know how we reach the cooking spot and where we can park.

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Allergies and dietary needs

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who does not eat it. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Plan separately for anyone who needs halal food
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Give us numbers for the meat-free options
  • Count anyone who doesn’t eat pork so we can plan lamb, chicken or beef

One of us cooks, the others serve, so the queue keeps moving.

Salads, coleslaw and potatoes turn rolls into a full meal.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
