Christmas hog roast for your Christmas party in Bodiam

For a work Christmas party in Bodiam, a hog roast is a change from the usual set menu: hot rolls, roast turkey if you like, and crackling for everyone. We serve apple sauce, hog roast rolls and rotisserie chicken, and we’re regularly asked to cater end-of-year team celebrations and christmas family parties.

Near Bodiam, country lanes are dark in winter, so tell us about the route and lighting at the spot. Tell us about dietary needs and allergies when you enquire, and we’ll give you the allergen information for every dish.

Prices and what affects them

Every booking is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Plates or china
  • How many people are eating
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken

Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest what works.

What to tell us

These are the details we need:

  • Rough numbers
  • Any venue rules
  • The address or postcode
  • Your date and serving time

We need a few details to quote: the date and serving time, the venue or TN32 postcode, rough numbers and which extras you’d like. Use our quote form.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Send the allergen list round before the party
  • Plan separately for anyone who needs halal food
  • Stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen list
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed

The cooking area and the path to it need lighting after dark.

China crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

For planners, venues and organisers

Marquee hire companies frequently have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

If you are planning an event on someone’s behalf, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We’ll keep you both updated.

What comes off the roaster

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Let us know numbers for the vegan option, and we’ll plan the vegan burgers or sausages.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

We can serve in rolls or on plates, and gluten-free rolls are available on request.

How the day works

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. Sunset in Bodiam in late December is about 3:55pm, so even a late-afternoon Christmas party needs lighting by the roaster and the serving table. We start in daylight and cook into the dark.

  1. It starts with your date, venue and rough numbers.
  2. We check the venue and send a price.
  3. We set up in daylight and roast into the evening.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve hot food at the agreed time.
  5. We tidy up and go, whatever the weather.

Getting ready for the day

  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps

Bodiam: your questions answered

Is Bodiam too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Is Bodiam close to London?

Roughly 44 miles from the centre of London.

Do you clear up?

We pack everything away after service, and we take our equipment with us.

Is mains power needed?

No, the roast is cooked on gas. Tell us what’s available and we’ll plan around it.

Who serves?

We carve and serve for you, and we clear up when service is finished.

What’s the price?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how long we’re on site. Send us the details and we will quote.

Can you cater outdoors in December?

Hot food suits winter perfectly, as long as guests have shelter.

Is turkey available?

We can: turkey and pork together suit most Christmas parties.

Full catering or machine hire?

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

You could go for a cold buffet, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you, especially outdoors.

Before you choose a spot

The cooking area is the main thing to plan. A quick checklist:

  • Flat ground outside, with lights for after dark
  • Indoor space for eating
  • A firm surface, as winter grass can be soft

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly.
