Millbrook in December: what to know

Millbrook is about 2 miles west of Southampton, in Southampton. Wherever your Christmas party is in Millbrook, we can bring the roaster, as long as there is an outdoor spot to cook. Millbrook is one of 40 towns and villages in Southampton where we cater.

A winter fair at a school like Tanners Brook Primary School gets dark early, so hot food is popular. Carol services and Christmas fairs at churches such as Church of the Holy Trinity draw people who are glad of hot food afterwards. Millbrook is within about 7 miles of the New Forest National Park, where winter lanes can be dark and narrow, so tell us about the route. With the sea within about 3 miles, December breezes can be cold.

This part of Southampton takes in SO15 and SO16, and we can cater your Christmas party anywhere in it. Whether your Christmas party is on Mill Road, Mendip Road and Severn Road or a nearby road, we can set up and roast there. If your venue is just outside Millbrook, we also cover Regents Park (1 mile north-east), Shirley (1 mile north-east), Freemantle (1 mile east), Maybush (1 mile north) and Redbridge (1 mile west). Within a short drive, we also cover Townhill Park (4 miles east), Midanbury (4 miles east), Thornhill (5 miles east), Chartwell Green (4 miles east), Harefield (5 miles east) and Itchen (4 miles east).

A little further out are Marlands Shopping Centre (2 miles east) and Western Community Hospital (0.7 miles north). Green spaces nearby include Testwood Lakes.

  • Local schools include Regents Park Community College (0.6 miles north-east) and Millbrook Community School (1.3 miles north)
  • Nearby, you’ll find Blacksmiths Arms (0.8 miles north-east)

Your questions about a hog roast for your Christmas party in Millbrook

What’s the nearest station to Millbrook?

The closest is Millbrook (Hants) station, roughly 0.8 miles away.

Could you cook in St James' Park?

Only if the landowner, normally the council, allows it. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

Do you do DIY hog roast hire?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. We will explain the details with your quote.

How much will it be?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how long we are on site. Tell us your date and we will send a price.

What comes with the hog roast?

Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Your quote lists any sides and extras.

What do you need from us on the day?

Only the space and a contact number. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.

Do we need our own staff?

No need for your own staff: we carve, serve and tidy up.

What if it rains?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

What we serve, dish by dish

Rotisserie chicken

Golden rotisserie chicken can be served in a roll or on a plate alongside the pork.

Roast pork

The hog roasts slowly for hours, so the meat is tender and juicy, and it’s carved fresh as people come up.

A hog roast compared with other options

At a winter fair, hot pork rolls are always popular. A hog roast is often good value for a crowd, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

Why us?

  • Carved to order by a chef
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • A choice of salads and potatoes
  • Planned to your running order

What a hog roast costs

Each booking is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • The number of people
  • The journey to the venue
  • Crockery choices
  • Menu choices and extras

Travel matters for the price: travel is included in your quote, with any London charges listed. Tell us the exact address for an accurate figure.

What we need to know

To check availability and the cooking area, we’ll need:

  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Roughly how many people
  • Your date and serving time
  • The venue or postcode

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, plus when you’d like to eat. We will confirm availability and send a price. Fill in our quote form.

Planning for dietary needs

Most people love a hog roast, but it is pork. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Send the allergen list round before the party
  • Stuffing typically contains gluten, so check the allergen list
  • Label alternatives clearly
  • Halal is not offered, so arrange it separately

We serve hot rolls on cue, so food goes out straight from the roaster.

China crockery is available on request.

How the day works

A hog roast is always cooked outside, under a gazebo on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We agree exactly where before the day. In December, it’s dark in Millbrook by about 4:00pm, so even a late-afternoon Christmas party needs lighting by the roaster and the serving table. We set up in daylight and roast into the evening.

  1. Book early for December.
  2. We check your venue and send a quote.
  3. We arrive while it is light and set up under cover.
  4. We serve pork, turkey and sides.
  5. We tidy up and leave.

How to prepare

  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
  • Ensure we can wheel the roaster to the spot

How to get a price

Planners, venues and businesses

If you are a venue or event planner, we can fit around your other suppliers.

If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

  • Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
