Hog roast hire for Millbrook

Hog roast hire in Millbrook, carved to order

Hiring a hog roast means a whole hog cooked slowly on site, for hours, under a gazebo outside. When it’s ready, our chef carves it and our staff serve it in soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. We serve halloumi skewers, salads and rotisserie chicken, and we are often booked for wakes and sports clubs and societies.

In and around Millbrook, gardens and village halls are common choices. If the lane is narrow, tell us so we can plan our vehicle. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, low and slow, for hours, and carved only when you are ready to eat.

Planning for dietary needs

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Remember that stuffing generally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • We do not offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it’s needed
  • Ask about allergies when you send invitations
  • Put the menu on the invitation

Expect us to be on site for much of the day, since slow roasting starts early.

A second roast, lamb or chicken, gives people a choice, priced in the quote.

What happens on the day

A typical booking goes like this: the roaster goes up and the hog goes on, the pork cooks slowly for hours, and our chef carves it when you’re ready. Around midsummer it stays light in Millbrook until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 4:00pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We clear up and go.

Before we arrive

  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Let us know about tight access
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster

Catered or do it yourself?

You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Compared with food vans, a hog roast feeds a crowd quickly from one roast. Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so each one is itemised. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

Why book with us

If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

Can you cater after a service at Church of the Holy Trinity?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is typically served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you will gather.

How soon do you get booked up?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But do ask even at short notice: fill in our quote form.

Do you serve the crackling?

Of course: the skin turns to crackling and everyone gets some.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t offer halal meat.

Is it just pork?

It’s built around the hog, but lamb and chicken can be added.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is frequently possible, with the venue’s agreement.

What do people get?

The classic: pork in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Sides and extra meats are listed in your quote.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
