Corporate hog roast for Gatcombe

What we serve, dish by dish

Stuffing and apple sauce

Sharp, sweet apple sauce and savoury sage and onion stuffing are the traditional pairing. Stuffing normally contains gluten.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Coleslaw is the natural partner for a pork roll, while salads and potatoes make a plated meal.

Staff days in Gatcombe work well with a hog roast: rolls are fast to serve and easy to eat. Chicken, lamb and vegetarian options cover everyone else. On the menu are coleslaw, hog roast rolls and rotisserie chicken, and we are regularly asked to cater launch days and summer staff parties.

Rural businesses around Gatcombe can be a long way from anywhere to buy lunch, which makes a hog roast a real treat. The hog is roasted on site at your staff event, low and slow, for hours.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

You will get allergen information for everything we serve. To help:

  • Count anyone who does not eat pork, for the alternatives
  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Stuffing generally contains gluten, so check the allergen list
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food

On the day, we arrive early and set up where agreed, then roast through the morning.

China crockery is available for client events, quoted separately.

How we price a hog roast for your team

We don’t use a fixed price list, since every event is different. The main factors are:

  • The date and time of year
  • How many people are eating
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Access to the cooking area

When comparing prices, compare the same things: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

What we need to know

When you get in touch, it helps to include:

  • The date and time of the event
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • An estimate of numbers

Busy weekends book up early, especially summer Saturdays and December Fridays. Send us your date for a quote: send us your details through our quote form.

What happens on the day

Here’s how the day typically runs: the roaster goes up and the hog goes on, the roast cooks gently through the day, and we carve and serve at the agreed time. After-work summer events in Gatcombe have light until about 9:20pm at midsummer and 8:55pm in late May, so an after-work hog roast works well in summer. In late September, the light goes at about 7:10pm.

  1. Start with the date, site and numbers.
  2. We sort access and send a quote.
  3. We roast on site.
  4. We carve and serve quickly.
  5. We clear up afterwards.

How to prepare

  • Name a contact for the day
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains

Planning help

For planners, venues and organisers

Venues often have rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so it is worth asking first. We’ll liaise with them on access and set-up.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Is a hog roast right for your staff event?

For client events, add china, sides and a second roast to make it more formal. UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. Every event gets its own quote, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

Gatcombe questions

Do you come out to small places like Gatcombe?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Can you do a hog roast for a client event?

It can be dressed up, with plates or china.

Where on site can you cook?

A car park, yard or grounds generally works, given level ground and clearance.

Do we need our own staff?

You don’t need anyone else: we carve, serve and tidy up.

When do you start roasting?

It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it is several hours. You’ll know our arrival time in advance.

How do you work out quantities?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you’re feeding, so tell us your best estimate. The quote sets it out.

What should we sort out beforehand?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We bring everything else.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. Halal meat isn’t something we offer.

Planning the cooking spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, so a few things are worth checking:

  • Space away from buildings, vehicles and trees
  • Your site’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
  • Someone to meet us at reception

Gatcombe is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we’ll plan the journey.

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.
