Catered or do it yourself?

If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a restaurant outing, a hog roast is easier to organise and keeps people together. Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, plus travel and access. Every booking is different, so we quote each one individually.

Why Hillgrove hosts choose us

  • Carved by our chef in front of your staff
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • Staff to serve, so you don’t have to
  • A clear quote with everything listed

For planners, venues and organisers

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Let us know what your event requires and we will tell you what we can send.

If you’re a venue or event planner, we’re happy to work alongside your team, sharing timings and a site plan.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. Open days in Hillgrove usually finish in daylight, but in December it is dark by about 4:00pm, so late events need lighting.

  1. Send us the site, date, numbers and break time.
  2. We check access and gas rules and quote.
  3. The roast starts early on site.
  4. We serve within your break.
  5. We tidy up and leave.
