FAQs for High Cogges

Do you come out to small places like High Cogges?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Is High Cogges close to London?

About 61 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Can you work around our timings?

We’ll be as flexible as we can. Keep us posted on the day and we’ll adjust.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. We do not offer halal meat.

Do you serve the food?

Our chef carves and our staff serve, and we clear up when service is finished.

Do we need to provide electricity?

Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

What space does the roaster need?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. A picture helps.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. Ask and we will talk you through it.

How the day works

The roaster cooks outdoors, on a level, open spot under cover, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We agree exactly where before the day. By late September, sunset near High Cogges is about 7:10pm, so plan lights for evening service.

  1. Tell us the base location.
  2. We confirm where we set up.
  3. We roast under cover at base.
  4. We serve rolls or plates quickly.
  5. We tidy up and go.

Preparing for the day

  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day

How to compare hog roast caterers

Working with your venue

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so it’s worth asking first. We’ll work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

For events on land you do not own, such as a park or field, you’ll need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a barbecue, carving is quicker for big numbers. Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, along with distance and how easy the site is. There’s no one-size price, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Why High Cogges hosts choose us

  • An itemised quote

What a hog roast costs

Your quote depends on:

  • Season and day of the week
  • The number of people
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Which meats and sides you choose

The main driver is numbers: bigger groups generally cost less per head, since much of the cost is fixed.
