FAQs for New Street

Is New Street too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

What if it rains?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Your crew will want somewhere dry to eat.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is frequently possible, with the venue’s agreement.

Who serves?

No need for your own staff: our chef carves and our team serves and clears.

How do we prepare?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We bring everything else.

Do you need much space at base?

Not much: a level area at base.

Do you bring plates?

Plates are included. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.

Step by step

Your timings come first. If the day runs behind, we can hold the cooked roast for a while before carving, so tell us as soon as plans change. By late September, sunset near New Street is about 7:00pm, so a late wrap needs lighting at base.

  1. Send us the location, dates and lunch time.
  2. We check access to base and quote.
  3. The roast starts early.
  4. We serve when lunch is called.
  5. We pack away straight after.

How to prepare

  • Have a level outdoor spot ready
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees

How to get a price

We need a few details to quote: the date and serving time, the venue or TN15 postcode, rough numbers and which extras you’d like. Send us your details through our quote form.

Is a hog roast right for your shoot?

Compared with a barbecue, carving is quicker for big numbers. When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote is not always the best value.

Why us?

  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • Served at the time you choose
  • A choice of salads and potatoes

Read our prices page or our hog roast cost guide.

Looking after everyone

Most people love a hog roast, but it is pork. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Collect crew dietary needs from the call sheet
  • Plan separately for halal if needed
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans
  • Count crew needing an alternative

Give us one contact in production, typically locations or the production office.

For an evening wrap, tell us about lighting at base.

About the food

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Vegan crew can have a vegan burger or sausage, so nobody misses out.

Crackling

Crackling takes hours to get right, and a whole hog roasted slowly gets it just right.
