Film set catering in Ovington, slow-roasted on site

We work with location managers and production offices on access, base layout and timings. For wrap days and historic house shoots, we can cook new potatoes, spit-roast lamb and hog roast rolls and more.

Rural locations near Ovington can be a long way from food, so hot food at base is a big help. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, low and slow, for hours, and carved only when you’re ready to eat.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Vegetarians get halloumi and vegetable skewers, so they get something hot and satisfying too.

Roast pork

Slow-roasted pork is the heart of the menu: carved thick or thin, as people like it, and served hot.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Next to shop-bought sandwiches, a hot hog roast keeps morale up. A hog roast is often good value for a crowd, since one roast goes a long way. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

What you get with us

  • Our staff serve and clear
  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork
  • Fresh carving at the serving station
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling

Read our prices page and our hog roast cost guide.

  • A level spot at base for the roaster

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before you book.

Planning for dietary needs

Most people love a hog roast, but it’s pork. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Plan separately for halal if needed
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Tell us who does not eat pork
  • Request gluten-free rolls

Give us one contact in production, typically locations or the production office.

China crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Ovington: your questions answered

Is Ovington close to London?

Roughly 56 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

Do you come out to small places like Ovington?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

What paperwork do you provide?

Requirements vary by production; share your list and we will respond.

Do we need our own staff?

We carve and serve for you, and we clear up when service is finished.

How much room do you need?

A flat, open spot outside, and a way to wheel everything in. Send us a photo if you’re unsure.

Do you have alternatives?

Chicken, lamb, halloumi skewers and a vegan option. We don’t offer halal meat.

When should we book?

As early as you can for summer weekends and December. Quieter dates can frequently be booked at shorter notice. Ask and we’ll check.

How long does the roast need?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We plan the timings from when you want to eat.

How the day works

The secret is time: the meat cooks gently until it’s tender while the skin turns into crackling. Then it rests briefly before our chef carves. Late-September shoots near Ovington lose the light at about 7:10pm, so a late wrap needs lighting at base.

  1. You send the location, date and lunch call.
  2. You get a check on access and a quote.
  3. We agree where we set up and when we arrive.
  4. When lunch is called, we carve and serve quickly.
  5. We pack away straight after service.

Before we arrive

  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Send final numbers in good time
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages

Ask for a quote

It’s easy to get a price: tell us when, where, how many and what time you’d like to eat. We will reply with a clear price and what’s included. Fill in our quote form.
