What affects the price in Palestine

Things that change the price:

  • Travel to Palestine
  • Menu choices and extras
  • How many people are eating
  • Plates or china

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, so we quote each one individually.

What we need to know

To check availability and the cooking area, tell us:

  • The venue or postcode
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china

Busy weekends book up early, so ask early for summer Saturdays and December. Send us your date for a quote: fill in our quote form.

Film set catering in Palestine, slow-roasted on site

Crews in Palestine work long days, and lunch needs to be hot and on time. A hog roast suits a unit base: it roasts through the morning and is carved fast when lunch is called. Typical bookings include shoots on location and wrap days, with halloumi skewers, salads and rotisserie chicken.

For a shoot in a place like Palestine, tracks and soft ground need checking. We bring plates as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

How to compare hog roast caterers

For planners, venues and organisers

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so check before you book. We will work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. Other tips:

  • Remember stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Keep vegetarian food labelled
  • Share the allergen list with the crew
  • Request gluten-free rolls

When lunch is called, we carve fast.

A second meat widens the menu.

Why choose a hog roast in Palestine?

Some productions combine a hog roast with their usual caterer, for a wrap or a milestone. Midweek and quieter months are frequently easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Ask us and we’ll suggest the best fit for your budget.

Why us?

  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside

Questions from Palestine

Do you come out to small places like Palestine?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Which station is closest to Palestine?

Grateley station, in Palestine itself.

How much does a hog roast cost?

Numbers, menu and travel decide the price. Tell us your date and we will send a price.

What happens after service?

We clear the serving area and pack away, and leave the area tidy.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. Serving indoors is typically fine if the venue is happy.

Do you need much space at base?

Not much: a level area at base.

When should we book?

As early as you can for summer weekends and December. Quieter dates can frequently be booked at shorter notice. Send your date and we’ll check.

Is there a non-pork option?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. We do not provide halal meat.

About the food

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

For vegans, there’s a vegan burger or sausage in a roll, so everyone has something hot.

Spit-roast lamb

Lamb on the spit roasts gently for hours, carved to order at the serving station, frequently with mint sauce.

How it works

The roaster cooks outdoors, on a level, open spot under cover, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We agree exactly where before the day. At midsummer, daylight in Palestine lasts until about 9:25pm, so a wrap party can run into the evening.

  1. The production office sends us the location, dates, numbers and lunch time.
  2. We check access to base and quote.
  3. We agree our position at base with the location manager.
  4. We roast through the morning and carve fast when lunch is called.
  5. Afterwards we clear our spot at base.

Before we arrive

  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains

Planning help

Palestine for film and TV crews

Palestine is in Hampshire. We take a hog roast for the crew to homes, halls, workplaces and venues in Palestine and the surrounding area. We bring hog roasts to all 683 towns and villages across Hampshire, from the larger towns to small villages. Our bookings stretch from Palestine to Southampton (20 miles away).

Within reach of Palestine are historic houses such as Idmiston Manor (4.7 miles south-west). Historic houses are popular locations, and most keep cooking well away from the house, so plan the unit base with locations. For crew arriving by train, Grateley station serves Palestine directly.

This part of Hampshire takes in SP11, so your shoot can be anywhere in it. We can cater a shoot on streets such as Station Road, Streetway Road and Campbell Close, wherever there’s an outdoor spot for the roaster. Neighbouring places where we cater shoots include Grateley (1 mile north-east), Quarley (2 miles north), Over Wallop (2 miles south-east), Fox (2 miles north-east) and Kentsboro (3 miles east). Larger places within reach include Winchester (15 miles south-east), Andover (7 miles north-east), Romsey (14 miles south-east), Hyde (15 miles south-east), Tidworth (5 miles north) and Weeke (14 miles south-east).

Green spaces nearby include Quarley Hill and Winterbourne Downs RSPB reserve.
