Planners, venues and businesses
Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.
If you are a venue or event planner, we are happy to work alongside your team, sharing timings and a site plan.
Planning for dietary needs
We give full allergen information for every dish. To help:
- Count crew needing an alternative
- Stuffing usually contains gluten
- Plan separately for halal if needed
- Post allergen details at base
When lunch is called, we carve fast.
Wrap parties can run into the evening, tell us about lighting at base.
Is a hog roast right for your shoot?
Compared with a barbecue, one roast serves everyone together. The main driver is numbers: the price per head usually falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

Pondwell questions
Can you roast near the sea around Pondwell?
Yes. We roast under cover and choose a sheltered spot where we can.
Is Pondwell too small for a hog roast?
No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.
What happens in bad weather?
The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Your crew will want somewhere dry to eat.
Can you set up at the unit base?
Not much: a level area at base.
Do you have documents for locations?
Send us your requirements, and we will confirm what we can provide.
Can you be flexible on serving time?
Within reason, we can. Give us a contact on the day and we will fit around changes.
Do you have alternatives?
We can add chicken, lamb or vegetarian options.
Can you serve at our lunch call?
That is exactly how we work, holding the roast if lunch moves.
What happens on the day
Here’s how the day normally runs: the roaster goes up and the hog goes on, the pork cooks slowly for hours, and we carve and serve at the agreed time. In December, daylight in Pondwell ends around 4:00pm, so the unit base needs lighting for late service. Summer shoots have daylight until about 9:20pm.
- We start with the location, call times and numbers.
- We check the route and send a price.
- Our position and arrival are agreed in advance.
- We carve to order the moment lunch is called.
- Afterwards we clear our spot at base.
Preparing for the day
- Give us final numbers a week or so before
- Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
- Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
