About film set catering in the Isle of Wight
Chicken, lamb, halloumi skewers and a vegan option cover most crews, and we provide allergen information for every dish. Popular choices include rotisserie chicken, a vegan option and spit-roast lamb, and we’re frequently booked for long shoot days and rural locations.
It is a relaxed, well-organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up where we have agreed, and roast, carve and serve without fuss.
- The production office sends us the location, dates, numbers and lunch time.
- You get a check on access and a quote.
- We agree our position at base with the location manager.
- When lunch is called, we carve and serve quickly.
- Afterwards we clear our spot at base.
Pricing in the Isle of Wight

What’s near Newport
In Newport, that can mean an event near Castle Inn, The Man in the Moon and Seaclose Park and the streets around them. Nearby too are Christ The King College (0.6 miles south-west), Island Innovation VI Form Campus (under half a mile south-east) and Nine Acres Primary School (less than half a mile south). A little further out are Carisbrooke Castle (1 mile south-west) and St Mary's Hospital (0.8 miles north). Within reach you’ll find Briddlesford Nature Reserve and Mill Hill.
Shooting in the Isle of Wight: unit bases
From Newport, Ryde and Cowes to 102 villages and hamlets, the Isle of Wight has every kind of location. The roaster needs level ground at the unit base. 116 of the places we cover in the Isle of Wight are within about 6 miles of the sea, so we often plan a sheltered spot for the roaster.
Newport: With the A3020 and A3054 nearby, Newport is easy for us and the trucks to reach. Nearby historic houses include Carisbrooke Castle (1 mile south-west) and Gatcombe House (2.5 miles south). Period locations like these generally keep catering well away from the house, so agree the base early. On a winter shoot near Newport, the light goes by about 4:00pm, so the unit base needs lighting for late service. Summer shoots have daylight until about 9:20pm.
For planners, venues and organisers
Event organisers often ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Let us know what your event requires and we’ll tell you what we can send.
Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so check before booking. We will liaise with them on access and set-up.

Planning the cooking spot
A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, and a little planning goes a long way:
- A contact in production
- Approval from locations
- Away from vehicles and equipment
Is a hog roast right for you?
At the end of a shoot, a hog roast feels like a reward.
Comparing caterers
- Allergen information for every dish
- The deposit, balance and cancellation terms
- Exactly what’s included in the price
- How long the roast takes and when they’ll arrive
The Isle of Wight questions
Do you provide china?
Plates come as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.
What do you need from us on the day?
Only the space and a contact number. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.
Where do you set up on a shoot?
Not much: a level area at base.
Can you do gluten-free?
We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Ask for the allergen list, as stuffing normally contains gluten.
What about crew who do not eat pork?
Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. We don’t offer halal meat.
How long does the roast need?
It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it is several hours. We will confirm our arrival time when we quote.
What if it rains?
We roast under cover, so the food is not affected. Your crew will want somewhere dry to eat.
