Slow-roasted pork in Steephill

How our film set catering works in Steephill

We need an outdoor spot at base, clear of vehicles and kit, in a position locations are happy with. Whether it’s ad shoots and location days, we can cook hog roast rolls, spit-roast lamb and salads.

Near Steephill, check tracks and ground with locations. Our chef carves in front of your crew, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

How we price a hog roast for the crew

We work out each quote from:

  • Numbers
  • Plates or china
  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • The date and time of year

Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote, with any London charges listed. Give us the address so the quote is accurate.

What to tell us

To check availability and the cooking area, tell us:

  • Your date and serving time
  • The venue or postcode
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
  • An estimate of numbers

If you are comparing hog roast caterers for Steephill, check what each quote actually includes. We spell it out in ours. To get yours, send us your details through our quote form.

Allergies and dietary needs

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. Other tips:

  • Keep vegetarian food labelled
  • Ask the production office for dietary needs
  • Plan separately for halal if needed
  • Tell us who does not eat pork

If lunch moves, we hold the roast a little; just let us know.

Ask about china.

What we serve, dish by dish

Roast pork

The hog roasts slowly for hours, so the meat is tender and juicy, and our chef carves it to order.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Choose from salads, new potatoes, coleslaw and roast or jacket potatoes, to suit your event.

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with a barbecue, carving is quicker for big numbers. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

What you get with us

  • Carved by our chef in front of your crew
  • A choice of salads and potatoes
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too

The process

A typical booking goes like this: the roaster goes up and the hog goes on, the roast cooks gently through the day, and we carve and serve at the agreed time. In December, daylight in Steephill ends around 4:00pm, so the unit base needs lighting for late service. Summer shoots have daylight until about 9:20pm.

  1. You send the location, date and lunch call.
  2. We check the route and send a price.
  3. Our position and arrival are agreed in advance.
  4. When lunch is called, we carve and serve quickly.
  5. Afterwards we clear our spot at base.

Getting ready for the day

  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Let us know about tight access

For planners, venues and organisers

For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

Venues often have rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

What the cooking area needs

It is worth planning the cooking area in advance. We look for:

  • A covered eating area
  • A level area at base
  • One contact for the day

For somewhere as remote as Steephill, early notice helps us plan the trip.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before booking.
