Nearby historic houses include Nunwell House (1.7 miles south-west) and Yaverland Manor (1.7 miles south). If you are shooting at a historic house, the roaster will need a base agreed with the property. The coast is within about 3 miles of Gaskins, and coastal unit bases can be exposed.

Wrap parties suit a hog roast too, with crew eating together at the end of the shoot. We serve spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken and a vegan option, and we’re regularly asked to cater long days on set and rural locations.

For a shoot in a place like Gaskins, tracks and soft ground need checking before the day. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a full location caterer, a hog roast suits single days and smaller crews. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. There is no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

Why book with us

  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
  • Timed around your day
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Carved to order by a chef

Take a look at our prices page or what a hog roast costs.

How the day works

A hog roast is always cooked outside, on a level, open spot under cover, well clear of walls, tents and trees. We’ll agree the spot with you beforehand. Early starts matter for a hog roast at base, and winter daylight in Gaskins ends around 4:00pm.

  1. We start with the location, call times and numbers.
  2. We check access to base and quote.
  3. We agree where we set up and when we arrive.
  4. When lunch is called, we carve and serve quickly.
  5. Afterwards we clear our spot at base.

Preparing for the day

  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Let us know about tight access
  • Ensure we can wheel the roaster to the spot

Gaskins questions

Do you come out to small places like Gaskins?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

What about windy coastal sites?

Yes, of course. We roast under cover and choose a sheltered spot where we can.

What should we sort out beforehand?

A clear, level cooking spot, a route to wheel the equipment in and a contact for the day. We’ll bring the rest.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

How long does the roast need?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We work back from your serving time.

What do people get?

The classic: pork in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Sides and extra meats are listed in your quote.

How much will it be?

Each event is priced on its own, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Ask us for a quote.

Can you cater for vegans on set?

Chicken, lamb, halloumi skewers and a vegan option. Halal isn’t available.

How we price a hog roast for the crew

The biggest factors are:

  • Site access
  • How long the roast and service take
  • The journey to the venue
  • How many people are eating

UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. We quote every event individually, so you know exactly what you are paying for.

Details that help

For a quick, accurate price, tell us:

  • Your menu choices
  • Allergies we should know about
  • An estimate of numbers
  • The venue or postcode

Every quote lists the menu, the serving time, staff and plates, so you can compare caterers fairly. Send us your details through our quote form.

Working with your venue

Booking for a club or group? A single point of contact keeps things simple, especially on the day.

If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Some crew will not eat pork, so it is worth adding an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Halal is not offered
  • Ask the production office for dietary needs
  • Post allergen details at base
  • Label the alternatives clearly

We clear our spot after lunch.

Add salads and potatoes for a full lunch.

What comes off the roaster

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Some crew will be vegetarian, so halloumi and vegetable skewers make sure they’re not left with just salad.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

A hog roast roll is designed to be eaten in the hand. Gluten-free rolls can be provided on request.

Where the roaster can go in Gaskins

Before the day, it helps to think about where the roaster will go. The ideal spot has:

  • Access agreed with locations
  • The location manager’s agreement
  • Somewhere for crew to eat if it rains

Gaskins is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we’ll plan the journey.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before you book.
