Funeral wake catering near Egypt

Wake catering across Egypt and Hampshire, wherever the family gathers. For church and village hall wakes and gatherings at clubs and pubs, we will put together a menu of new potatoes, halloumi skewers and roast pork in rolls or on plates and more.

For a wake near Egypt, a farmhouse or village hall frequently works well, with the roaster in the yard or garden. You’ll know what’s included before you book: serving times, the menu, staff and anything else agreed, with no surprises on the day.

Prices and what affects them

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • Access to the cooking area
  • Crockery choices
  • How long the roast and service take
  • The journey to the venue

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

Details that help

When you get in touch, it helps to include:

  • Dietary requirements
  • The address or postcode
  • Your menu choices
  • The date and when you’d like to eat

Numbers not final yet? A rough figure is fine for a first quote, and you can confirm nearer the time. Fill in our quote form.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Rather than relatives cooking, a catered hog roast lets everyone be together. Midweek and quieter months are often easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Ask us and we’ll suggest the best fit for your budget.

Why book with us

  • A choice of salads and potatoes
  • Served at the time you choose
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it

What happens on the day

We take care of everything from the first hour of roasting to clearing away, so you can enjoy your wake. Late-December sunset in Egypt is about 4:00pm, so an afternoon wake in winter needs lighting by the food. In summer, there’s daylight until about 9:25pm.

  1. It starts with the date, venue and when people are expected.
  2. You get a quick answer on the date, and a quote.
  3. The roast cooks while the service is under way.
  4. We serve when everyone arrives, calmly and without fuss.
  5. We tidy up and leave without fuss.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about tight access
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before

Occasions we serve in Egypt

Nobody in the family has to cook or serve.

However big or small the event in Egypt, a hog roast feeds a crowd well. We’re often asked to cater:

  • Family get-togethers after a service
  • Ashes ceremonies
  • Wakes at a local club
  • Wakes at home

If the funeral is at a church such as Ebenezer Methodist Chapel, a hall or home nearby keeps the journey to the wake short.

Questions to ask before you book

  • If the price includes VAT
  • When payments are due and what happens if plans change
  • How they handle allergens and dietary needs
  • Staffing on the day

What the cooking area needs

The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Before booking, check:

  • A short route for the equipment
  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
  • A level spot outdoors for the roaster

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

Popular choices

  • Coleslaw
  • New potatoes
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Salads
  • Vegan option (Ve)
  • Stuffing and apple sauce
  • Hog roast rolls
  • Rotisserie chicken

Organising for someone else?

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Tell us what you need and we will tell you what we can send.

If you’re a venue or event planner, we can fit around your other suppliers.

Allergies and dietary needs

Some guests will not eat pork, so plan an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Plates are easier for older guests than rolls
  • Give us numbers for the alternatives
  • Find out who would prefer chicken or a vegetarian option
  • Keep the alternatives labelled

Name a friend or relative as our contact, so the immediate family isn’t disturbed.

Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed.

Egypt: your questions answered

We’re gathering after a service at Ebenezer Methodist Chapel: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you will gather.

Which station is closest to Egypt?

Micheldever station, about 3.5 miles north-east of the centre.

What should we provide?

Not much: an outdoor cooking spot and someone to meet us.

How much does a hog roast cost?

Every booking is quoted individually, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Ask us for a quote.

Do you come to Egypt?

Yes. We cater across London and the South East, Egypt and the rest of Hampshire included. Send us the address for a quote.

How quickly can you cater a wake?

We’ll always try. Tell us the details and we will reply promptly.

Can we just hire the roaster?

DIY machine hire is available. We will confirm what comes with it and how to use it.

Is mains power needed?

The roaster runs on gas, so we don’t need mains power to cook. Power can help with lighting after dark.

What we serve, dish by dish

Roast pork

Everything starts with the slow-roasted pork: carved in front of you, a mix of shoulder and leg, straight from the roaster.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Choose from salads, new potatoes, coleslaw and roast or jacket potatoes, depending on the season and the occasion.
