Do you come out to small places like Acol?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Can you roast near the sea around Acol?

Yes, of course. We roast under cover and choose a sheltered spot where we can.

Do we need our own staff?

Our chef carves and our staff serve, then clear the serving area afterwards.

Can you help with a fundraiser?

Get in touch.

How far ahead should we book?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But it is always worth asking: fill in our quote form.

How do we prepare?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We’ll bring the rest.

How our hog roast for events works in Acol

A hog roast fits a village fête perfectly: the smell draws people over, and rolls are easy to eat while walking round. For agricultural and country shows and school fairs and sports days, we’ll put together a menu of halloumi skewers, crackling and a vegan burger or sausage and more.

Near Acol, events may be far from shops and cafés, so a hog roast goes down well. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we’ll tell you exactly what’s in each dish before booking.

Planning the cooking spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • Permission for cooking on the site
  • Your trader requirements
  • Clearance from other stalls and tents

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

What we serve

  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Crackling
  • Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Coleslaw
  • Hog roast rolls
  • Stuffing and apple sauce

For planners, venues and organisers

If the event is on someone else’s land, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

If you’re organising for someone else, whether you are a planner, a PA or on a committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We’ll keep you both updated.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Rolls and stuffing normally contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. Other tips:

  • Check other traders aren’t all selling pork
  • Gluten-free rolls can be brought on request
  • Remember stuffing generally contains gluten
  • Tell us what the event asks of traders

Name an organiser to meet us.

Coleslaw goes well with pork rolls.

About the food

Stuffing and apple sauce

Sharp, sweet apple sauce and savoury sage and onion stuffing are the traditional pairing. Note that stuffing normally contains gluten.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

For vegetarians, halloumi and vegetable skewers are cooked separately from the meat, so they get something hot and satisfying too.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with a volunteer-run kitchen, a professional hog roast frees up your helpers. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

Why book with us

  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Our staff serve and clear
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • A clear quote with everything listed

See our prices page or the cost guide.

Should I cook it myself?

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

How it works

A hog roast is always cooked outside, under a gazebo on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We’ll agree the spot with you beforehand. Late-September events in Acol lose the light at about 7:00pm, so plan lighting if you’re trading into the evening.

  1. Tell us about the event.
  2. We check the pitch and paperwork and quote.
  3. The roast starts before the gates open.
  4. We carve to order through the day.
  5. We leave the pitch clean.

How to prepare

  • Give us a contact number for the day
  • Think about shelter for your visitors
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
