What a hog roast costs

We work out each quote from:

  • The journey to the venue
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Access to the cooking area
  • How many people are eating

Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. We quote every event individually, with everything listed.

What we need to know

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • Allergies we should know about
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Your menu choices

Every event is quoted on its own, based on numbers, menu, timings and distance. Ask us for a quote for your event: fill in our quote form.

Hog roast for events near Earl's Court

A hog roast is one of the most popular stalls at events in Earl's Court. We roast on the pitch through the day and carve rolls to order, keeping the queue moving. Whether it is PTA summer fairs and tournaments and sports days, we will put together a menu of crackling, halloumi skewers and a vegan burger or sausage and more.

Events in Earl's Court range from street parties and school fairs to markets and festivals. Organisers typically need council permission for public spaces, and we need a pitch we can reach. The hog is roasted on site at your event, slowly, over several hours, and carved only when you’re ready to eat.

Your questions about a hog roast for your event in Earl's Court

Can you get a hog roast into a London garden in Earl's Court?

It depends on access: a rear gate or yard generally works. Tell us about steps, gates and parking and we will advise.

Do you trade at school fairs around Earl's Court?

Yes, if the school is happy for a hog roast on site. Send us the date and where the roaster would go.

Do you need power or water?

The roaster runs on gas, so we don’t need mains power to cook. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

We can supply gluten-free rolls on request. You’ll get allergen details for everything.

How much room do you need?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, and a way to wheel everything in. Send us a picture if you are unsure.

Is crockery included?

Plates come as standard. If you’d like china, ask and we’ll add it to the quote.

Do you trade at school events?

Yes, with the school’s permission. Send us the details.

How much will it be?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how long we are on site. Send us the details and we will quote.

A hog roast compared with other options

One hog roast and a couple of other stalls makes a good food line-up. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Working with your venue

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers, sharing timings and a site plan.

For events on land you do not own, such as a park or field, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

The process

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, timed so it is ready when you want to eat. At midsummer, events in Earl's Court stay light until about 9:20pm, so evening trading typically finishes in daylight in high summer. Winter fairs, dark by about 3:55pm, need a well-lit pitch.

  1. Tell us about the event.
  2. We check the pitch and paperwork and quote.
  3. The roast starts before the gates open.
  4. We carve to order through the day.
  5. We leave the pitch clean.

Before we arrive

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Think about shelter for your visitors
  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees

Stuffing and apple sauce

Apple sauce brings sweetness and sharpness go with the pork perfectly. Stuffing normally contains gluten.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

For vegetarians, halloumi and vegetable skewers are cooked separately from the meat, a hot, filling option of their own.

Space, access and the venue

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, so a few things are worth checking:

  • Space away from marquees, stalls and trees
  • Event approval for hot-food traders
  • Details of what the event requires

As a London location, Earl's Court is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly.

Should I cook it myself?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.
