About our hog roast for events in Quarley

Country shows near Quarley suit a hog roast, on a field, serving all day. We serve rotisserie chicken, crackling and hog roast rolls, and typical bookings are for vintage rallies and food and music festivals.

A fête near Quarley might be on a field with no mains power; the roaster runs on gas, so that is fine. Our staff serve and clear, so nobody in your party has to serve.

Allergies and dietary needs

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Gluten-free rolls can be brought on request
  • Let us know if many visitors are vegetarian
  • Balance the food line-up
  • Make the stall easy to find

Give us a contact on the day.

Chicken widens the choice.

Choosing a hog roast caterer

Working with your venue

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so check before you book. We’ll liaise with them on access and set-up.

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers.

A hog roast compared with other options

Next to volunteers cooking, we take the cooking off your volunteers. For larger numbers, a hog roast is normally good value, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

Why us?

  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • An itemised quote

Planning the cooking spot

The cooking area is the main thing to plan. Check these:

  • Permission for cooking on the site
  • Your trader requirements
  • A level pitch with firm ground

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before you book.

What we serve

  • Coleslaw
  • Hog roast rolls

Prices and what affects them

Every booking is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Menu choices and extras
  • The date and time of year
  • Plates or china
  • Time on site

When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

What to tell us

When you contact us, it helps to include:

  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • An estimate of numbers

Every event is quoted on its own, because numbers, menu, serving time and travel vary. Ask us for a quote for your event: send us your details through our quote form.

Full catering or machine hire?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

The process

When we arrive, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. It then roasts slowly for several hours, worked back from your serving time. Christmas fairs and lights switch-ons in Quarley are dark by about 4:00pm, so the pitch needs good lighting and a clear route for the queue.

  1. Organisers send us the date, site, numbers and how food will be paid for.
  2. You get a check on the date and pitch, and a quote.
  3. We arrive early, set up on the pitch and start roasting.
  4. We carve and serve through the agreed hours.
  5. We pack up and leave the pitch tidy.

Preparing for the day

  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Think about shelter for your visitors
  • Gather dietary requirements early
