A hog roast near Roedean
How our hog roast for events works in Roedean
At a fun run or tournament, a hog roast feeds hungry competitors, served as people finish. Popular choices include apple sauce, crackling and rotisserie chicken, and typical bookings are for festivals and school events.
Rural events near Roedean can be a long way from anywhere to eat, so a hog roast is a welcome sight. The carving happens right in front of your visitors, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet
Compared with burger vans, a hog roast stands out. Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, plus travel and access. There is no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.
Why book with us
- Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
- Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it

Roedean: your questions answered
Can you roast near the sea around Roedean?
Yes. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.
Do you cater at venues in the South Downs National Park?
Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.
Is there a non-pork option?
The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. We do not provide halal meat.
Do you have documents for event organisers?
Organisers often ask for a risk assessment or gas safety details. Let us know what you need.
How much room do you need?
Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. Send us a photo if you’re unsure.
Can you sell directly to visitors?
Some events pay for a package, others want a stall. We will agree what suits yours.
Can you do gluten-free?
We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Stuffing typically contains gluten, so check the allergen information.
Do you clear up?
Our staff clear up after service, and leave the area tidy.
How it works
Serving is straightforward: the chef carves and the team serves, and sides go out at the same time. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. In December, Roedean is dark by about 3:55pm, so the pitch needs good lighting and a clear route for the queue.
- Organisers send us the date, site, numbers and how food will be paid for.
- We check access to the pitch and send a price.
- We arrive early, set up on the pitch and start roasting.
- We carve rolls to order as the queue moves.
- We pack up and leave the pitch tidy.
Getting ready for the day
- Choose someone to meet us on arrival
- Gather dietary requirements early
- Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

DIY versus a catered hog roast
If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.
A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.
Looking after everyone
You will get allergen information for everything we serve. To help:
- Plan separately for halal if needed
- Make the stall easy to find
- Put the menu and allergen information on display
- Check other traders aren’t all selling pork
Name an organiser to meet us, especially for big events.
Chicken widens the choice.
- Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
- Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
- Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
- Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
