A hog roast near The Hale

Your questions about a hog roast for your event in The Hale

Can you come to a school fair in The Hale?

Yes, with the school’s permission. Send us the date and where the roaster would go.

Which station is closest to The Hale?

Mill Hill Broadway station, about 0.7 miles south-east of the centre.

How much does a hog roast cost?

Numbers, menu and travel decide the price. Send us the details and we will quote.

Can you roast in the rain?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower does not stop us. Your visitors will want somewhere dry to eat.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. Serving inside is frequently possible, with the venue’s agreement.

Can we just hire the roaster?

DIY machine hire is available. We’ll confirm what comes with it and how to use it.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t provide halal meat.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

We work back from when you want to eat, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.

Hog roast for events near The Hale

Organisers need traders who turn up and serve well. We bring everything, roast on the pitch and leave it clean. We serve halloumi skewers, rotisserie chicken and apple sauce, and we’re frequently booked for charity days and fun runs and sports events.

In The Hale, a hog roast suits school fairs and street parties, once the permissions are in place. Your quote spells out what’s included: the date, the serving time, the menu and the plates, with no surprises on the day.

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to cold food, hot food is popular in any season. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

Why book our hog roast in The Hale

  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • Timed around your day
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling

Take a look at our pricing and the cost guide.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from early set-up to carving at the end. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

Prices and what affects them

We work out each quote from:

  • The journey to the venue
  • Crockery choices
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Season and day of the week

Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Tell us your budget and we will suggest what works.

Details that help

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what to include:

  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Roughly how many people
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • A photo of the cooking area

For a quote, send us a few details: the date and serving time, the venue or HA8 postcode, rough numbers and which extras you’d like. Use our quote form.

The process

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. In December, The Hale is dark by about 3:55pm, so plan lights for the stall and the queue.

  1. Organisers send us the date, site, numbers and how food will be paid for.
  2. You get a check on the date and pitch, and a quote.
  3. We set up early so the roast is ready when visitors arrive.
  4. We carve and serve through the agreed hours.
  5. We pack down, take our waste and leave the pitch clean.

Preparing for the day

  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Have a level outdoor spot ready
  • Send final numbers in good time

Getting a price

The quickest way to get a price is to tell us the date, where the event is and roughly how many. A photo of the cooking area helps. Send us your details through our quote form.

Rotisserie chicken

Rotisserie chicken is a simple, popular alternative to pork, turned until the skin is golden.

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

For vegans, there’s a vegan burger or sausage in a roll, so everyone has something hot.

For planners, venues and organisers

Marquee hire companies frequently have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

If you’re organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, let us know who we will deal with on the day. We will keep everyone in the loop.

Planning the cooking spot

We need room to cook safely and under cover. Things to check:

  • Space for people to queue
  • A vehicle route onto the pitch
  • A level pitch

The Hale is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access can be tight: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

From the roaster

  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Hog roast rolls
  • Crackling
  • Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Coleslaw

Planning for dietary needs

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:

  • Plan separately for halal if needed
  • Tell us if there’s a vegetarian or vegan focus
  • Check other traders are not all selling pork
  • Show allergens at the stall

At the end, we pack down and take our waste.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
