Allergies and dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. A few tips:

  • Tell us what the event asks of traders
  • Show allergens at the stall
  • Check other traders are not all selling pork
  • Halal is not offered

If the ground is soft, we’ll need a firm route on and off, particularly in wet weather.

How our hog roast for events works in Willingdon

Shows and festivals last all day, and we serve through the agreed hours. For PTA summer fairs and fun runs and sports events, we can cook rotisserie chicken, hog roast rolls and crackling for your visitors.

At a field event near Willingdon, power and water may be limited; the roaster runs on gas, so that is fine. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, slowly, over several hours, then carved fresh for your visitors.

How it works

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. In late May, sunset in Willingdon is about 8:50pm, while at midsummer it’s about 9:15pm. After dark, the stall needs lighting.

  1. Share the date, site and expected crowds.
  2. We agree how food will be paid for.
  3. We arrive and set up under cover.
  4. Carving keeps the queue moving.
  5. We clear up and go.

Before we arrive

  • Think about shelter for your visitors
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage

Prices and what affects them

We don’t use a fixed price list, since every event is different. The main factors are:

  • The serving time and how long we are on site
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Whether you want china
  • Which meats and sides you choose

Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

What we need to know

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Roughly how many people
  • Dietary requirements
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Rules from the venue or landowner

Every quote lists the menu, the serving time, staff and plates, so it is easy to compare like for like. Use our quote form.

Crackling

For many people, the crackling is the best bit: crisp, golden and full of flavour, straight off the hog.

Roast pork

Hours of slow roasting make the pork soft and full of flavour, and it’s carved fresh as people come up.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors

  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
