Hog roast hire in Ashburnham

How our hog roast hire works in Ashburnham

Hiring a hog roast means a whole hog cooked slowly on site, for hours, under a gazebo outside. When it is ready, our chef carves it and our staff serve it in soft rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and a piece of crackling. Whether it’s work summer parties and weddings, day or evening, we’ll put together a menu of crackling, rotisserie chicken and hog roast rolls for your guests.

In a rural place like Ashburnham, roast pork in a field is hard to beat. Let us know about access and ground conditions. Our staff serve and clear, so you are not left handing out rolls or tidying up afterwards.

What comes off the roaster

Stuffing and apple sauce

A spoonful of apple sauce and a slice of stuffing make the roll.

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Tell us how many vegans to expect, and we’ll bring enough vegan burgers or sausages.

Full catering or machine hire?

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

What happens on the day

Rain does not stop the roast, because we cook under cover. Your guests will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. Around midsummer it stays light in Ashburnham until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:00pm, so summer evening service is generally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check availability and the space for the roaster and send a clear quote.
  3. We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
  4. We carve and serve when you’re ready to eat.
  5. We pack everything away when everyone has eaten.

Before we arrive

  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day

Ashburnham questions

Do you come out to small places like Ashburnham?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

How far is Ashburnham from London?

About 46 miles from central London, and well within our area.

What if things run late?

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

How do we prepare?

A clear, level cooking spot, a route to wheel the equipment in and a contact for the day. We bring everything else.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. We don’t provide halal meat.

Can we just hire the roaster?

Yes, we hire out the hog roast machine. We will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Will there be enough to go round?

We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we will talk it through when we quote.

How does hog roast hire work?

We handle the roasting, carving and serving. Just give us an outdoor spot to cook.

Planning for dietary needs

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Tips:

  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Remember that stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information

Let us know if the day runs late: a cooked roast can be held for a while before carving.

Add lamb or chicken for a second roast, priced in the quote.

What a hog roast costs

Each booking is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • The date and time of year
  • Whether you want china
  • Travel to Ashburnham

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

Details that help

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Please include:

  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • The address or postcode
  • An estimate of numbers
  • Anything the venue has asked for

Not sure how many to cater for? Give us your best estimate and we’ll quote on that, then confirm closer to the date. Fill in our quote form.

What the cooking area needs

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, so a few things are worth checking:

  • Space away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • A sheltered place for people to eat if it rains
  • A way to wheel the roaster to the spot

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

Organising for someone else?

If you’re booking for a workplace, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We work to the site’s rules.

Marquee suppliers typically set distances for cooking equipment, so let them know about the roaster. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Full catering or machine hire? Catering means we do everything; DIY hire means you roast and carve yourself. Most hosts choose catering for anything bigger than a family party. Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, plus travel and access. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.
