Diets, allergies and alternatives

Rolls and stuffing usually contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. Other tips:

  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • Find out who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests

Everything for serving comes with us, so all you need is the space.

China crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

How our hog roast hire works in Beedon

There is nothing quite like the smell of a hog roast drifting across a garden or field. We cook at your venue in Beedon, low and slow, then serve it in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. We are frequently asked to cater christmas fairs and milestone birthdays, serving hog roast rolls, crackling and salads.

Somewhere as small as Beedon, a field, yard or garden is frequently the spot. Country lanes and long drives are fine if we know about them, and firm, level ground matters most. The hog is roasted on site at your event, low and slow, for hours, then carved fresh for your guests.

How it works

The roaster cooks outdoors, under a gazebo on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We will agree the spot with you beforehand. By late September, sunset in Beedon is around 7:10pm, and in December it’s nearer 4:00pm. After dark, a lit path to the food makes a difference.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. You get an availability check and a clear quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day we roast for hours, then carve to order.
  5. We serve, tidy up and leave the spot clean.

Choosing a hog roast caterer

What comes off the roaster

Stuffing and apple sauce

A spoonful of apple sauce and a slice of stuffing make the roll, just as they should.

Spit-roast lamb

With lamb as well, there are two roasts to choose from, which suits bigger events.

Why choose a hog roast in Beedon?

Catered or DIY? Catering means we do everything; DIY hire means you roast and carve yourself. For bigger events, catering is normally the easier choice. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. Every booking is different, so we quote each one individually.

Why book our hog roast in Beedon

  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
  • Staff to serve, so you do not have to
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • Carved to order by a chef

Planning the cooking spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • A level patch of lawn, patio or hardstanding
  • Vehicle access close to the cooking area
  • A way to wheel the roaster to the spot

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

Full catering or machine hire?

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Your questions about a hog roast in Beedon

We’re gathering after a service at Church of St Nicholas: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the North Wessex Downs National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We will work to whatever the site needs.

Can you do gluten-free?

We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Ask for the allergen list, as stuffing normally contains gluten.

Do you serve the food?

You don’t need anyone else: our chef carves and our team serves and clears.

How far ahead should we book?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But it’s always worth asking: use our quote form.

Do you do DIY hog roast hire?

DIY machine hire is available. We’ll confirm what comes with it and how to use it.

Can we have lamb or chicken?

It is built around the hog, with lamb and chicken as extras.

What space does the roaster need?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We’ll confirm the space with your quote.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
