About our hog roast hire in Chuck Hatch

The smell of roasting pork is half the appeal. We cook at your venue in Chuck Hatch, low and slow, then carve the pork into rolls with all the trimmings. We serve coleslaw, halloumi skewers and crackling, and we are often booked for birthdays and anniversaries and parties at home.

In a hamlet or village like Chuck Hatch, a farmyard or a neighbour’s field can make a good cooking spot. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling.

Planning for dietary needs

Not everyone eats pork, so plan an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages

We’ll be with you for a good part of the day, because the roast starts hours before you eat.

Prefer to cook yourself? Ask about DIY machine hire.

Chuck Hatch questions

Do you cater at venues in the High Weald National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We will follow the site rules.

Is Chuck Hatch too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Do you cook it or do we?

Either: fully catered, where we roast, carve and serve, or DIY machine hire. Most people choose catering.

Who serves?

You do not need anyone else: our chef carves and our team serves and clears.

When should we book?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But do ask even at short notice: fill in our quote form.

Do you do DIY hog roast hire?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. Ask and we’ll talk you through it.

What if things run late?

We work back from when you want to eat, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

How much room do you need?

A flat, open spot outside, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. Send us a photo if you are unsure.

Catered or do it yourself?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you, especially outdoors.

How we price a hog roast

Things that change the price:

  • The serving time and how long we are on site
  • The journey to the venue
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • The number of people

Midweek and quieter months are frequently easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Tell us your budget and we will suggest what works.

What we need to know

For a quick, accurate price, tell us:

  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
  • Any venue rules
  • The date and time of the event
  • Allergies we should know about

When you are weighing up caterers, check what each quote actually includes. Ours lists it clearly. For a quote, send us your details through our quote form.

About the food

Crackling

For many people, the crackling is the best bit: golden, crunchy and salty, straight off the hog.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Sides include salads, coleslaw, new potatoes and roast or jacket potatoes, depending on the season and the occasion.

How the day works

Here’s how the day typically runs: we arrive, set up under cover and start roasting, the pork cooks slowly for hours, and our chef carves it when you are ready. Around midsummer it stays light in Chuck Hatch until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We arrive early, set up under cover and start roasting.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We clear up and go.

Before we arrive

  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Give us a contact number for the day
