Hog roast hire for Cripp's Corner
How our hog roast hire works in Cripp's Corner
Hiring a hog roast means a whole hog cooked slowly on site, for hours, under a gazebo outside. Then our chef carves it and the team serves it in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and a piece of crackling. We are frequently asked to cater big birthdays and anniversaries and gatherings after a funeral, serving spit-roast lamb, coleslaw and new potatoes.
Somewhere like Cripp's Corner, a yard or firm field frequently works. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. Your quote spells out what’s included: serving times, the menu, staff and anything else agreed, with no surprises on the day.

Diets, allergies and alternatives
A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who does not eat it. Here’s how to cover everyone:
- Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly
- Tell guests what’s on the menu in advance
- Remember that stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information
- If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We get there early, cook, carve and serve, then clear up.
China crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Planners, venues and businesses
Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so check before you book. We’ll liaise with them on access and set-up.
For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, you’ll need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.
Your questions about a hog roast in Cripp's Corner
Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the High Weald National Landscape?
Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll follow the site rules.
We’re gathering after a service at St Marks Staplecross: can you cater?
Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is normally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.
Is there a non-pork option?
There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Please note we do not offer halal meat.
How big a hog will we need?
The roast is chosen to suit how many you are feeding, so tell us your best estimate. The quote sets it out.
Can you cook a hog roast in a small garden?
Many gardens are big enough, as long as we can get the equipment in. A photo helps us check.
Can you work around our timings?
We’ll be as flexible as we can. Keep us posted on the day and we will fit around changes.
What meats can we have?
Pork is the classic, and you can add spit-roast lamb or rotisserie chicken. There are vegetarian and vegan options as well.
What do people get?
Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Your quote lists any sides and extras.
Should I cook it myself?
Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.
You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.
The process
Rain doesn’t stop the roast, because we cook under cover. Your guests will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. Light matters for a long roast: around Cripp's Corner, it stays light until about 9:15pm at midsummer, but by late December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.
- First, tell us about your event.
- We check the date and the cooking spot, then send a quote.
- We agree timings and where the roaster goes.
- On the day we roast for hours, then carve to order.
- We serve, tidy up and leave the spot clean.

Why choose a hog roast in Cripp's Corner?
Catered or DIY? Catering means we do everything; DIY hire means you roast and carve yourself. Most hosts choose catering for anything bigger than a family party. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, and the quote reflects that.
