Hog roast hire for your event in Filching

Hog roast hire means a whole pig roasted slowly at your venue, over several hours, outdoors under cover. Then our chef carves it and the team serves it in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and a piece of crackling. Popular choices include halloumi skewers, new potatoes and salads, and we are frequently booked for gatherings after a funeral and birthdays and anniversaries.

In a hamlet or village like Filching, a farmyard or a neighbour’s field can make a good cooking spot. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. We plan the timings around your day, because the roast has to start hours before you eat.

Questions from Filching

How far is Filching from London?

About 50 miles from central London.

Can you roast near the sea around Filching?

Yes, of course. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

What should we sort out beforehand?

Just the agreed spot and a contact on the day. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.

Do you serve the crackling?

Yes, the crackling is shared out as we carve.

What if things run late?

We work back from when you want to eat, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

What space does the roaster need?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, and a way to wheel everything in. A picture helps.

Do you leave the area tidy?

Our staff clear the serving area, and we take our equipment with us.

Can we choose catered or DIY?

You can have us cook, or hire the machine. We will explain what’s included in each when we quote.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with a barbecue, one roast feeds everyone at once, instead of food coming off the grill in batches. Our guide compares the two. Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so we list each one in the quote. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

Why book with us

  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • Our staff serve and clear
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • A clear quote with everything listed

What we serve, dish by dish

Spit-roast lamb

Lamb roasted on the spit is a lovely alternative to pork, and handy for anyone who does not eat pork.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Rolls or plates? Rolls are quicker; plates suit a sit-down meal, and gluten-free rolls are available on request.

How it works

We cook on a gas-fired roaster, so we don’t need mains power to cook. In Filching, the sun sets at about 9:15pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We arrive early, set up under cover and start roasting.
  4. The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

How to prepare

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages

How to get a price

What affects the price in Filching

There is no fixed price list, since every event is different. The main factors are:

  • Numbers
  • Distance from us
  • Plates or china
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site

Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Tell us your budget and we will suggest what works.

Details that help

To check the date and the space, tell us:

  • A picture of the cooking area
  • An estimate of numbers
  • Allergies we should know about
  • Anything the venue has asked for

Numbers not final yet? Give us your best estimate and we’ll quote on that, and you can confirm nearer the time. Use our quote form.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Some guests won’t eat pork, so plan an alternative. A few pointers:

  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Ask about allergies when you send invitations
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list

You won’t need to worry about the food on the day. We get there early, cook, carve and serve, then clear up.

A second roast, lamb or chicken, gives people a choice, priced in the quote.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
