How we price a hog roast

Here’s what affects the price:

  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Plates or china
  • Which meats and sides you choose

Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Tell us your budget and we will suggest what works.

What to tell us

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:

  • An estimate of numbers
  • A photo of the cooking area
  • Your menu choices
  • The venue or postcode

We need a few details to quote: your date, your venue or postcode, how many people and any menu choices. Fill in our quote form.

About our hog roast hire in Hunston

With hog roast hire, the cooking happens at your event, which means it is carved hot, with crisp crackling. Add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options if you like. Typical bookings include festive gatherings and club events and presentations, serving coleslaw, new potatoes and salads.

Somewhere as small as Hunston, a field, yard or garden is frequently the spot. Country lanes and long drives are fine if we know about them, and firm, level ground matters most. You’ll know what’s included before booking: the date, the serving time, the menu and the plates.

About the food

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Not everyone eats meat, and halloumi skewers give them a proper hot option.

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Our vegan option is a vegan burger or sausage, served in a roll with salads.

Full catering or machine hire?

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

How the day works

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. Evenings in Hunston stay light until about 9:20pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:05pm; after dark, the serving area and the path to it need good lighting.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. You get an availability check and a clear quote.
  3. We agree timings and where the roaster goes.
  4. We roast slowly on site, then carve for your guests.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we pack away.

Preparing for the day

  • Let us know about tight access
  • Send final numbers in good time
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain

Allergies and dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. A few tips:

  • Ask about allergies when you send invitations
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list

You will not need to worry about the food on the day. We get there early, cook, carve and serve, and our staff clear the serving area afterwards.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

For event organisers in Hunston

Event organisers frequently ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Tell us what you need and we will tell you what we can send.

Marquee hire companies frequently have rules about cooking near their tents, so tell them a hog roast is coming. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

Before you choose a spot

We need room to cook safely and under cover. Things to check:

  • A marquee, hall or barn as a wet-weather plan
  • Parking near the spot
  • A safe distance from walls, tents and trees

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Hunston: your questions answered

We are gathering after a service at St Leodegar's Church: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is normally elsewhere. Tell us where you’ll gather.

What’s the nearest station to Hunston?

The closest is Chichester station, roughly 1.5 miles away.

Do you cover Hunston?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, Hunston and the rest of West Sussex included. Send us the address for a quote.

Can you roast in the rain?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

Do you leave the area tidy?

Our staff clear the serving area, so you’re not left with the mess.

What meats can we have?

Add lamb or rotisserie chicken alongside the pork. Vegetarian and vegan options are available too.

What do you need from us on the day?

Just the agreed spot and a contact on the day. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. Serving inside is often possible, with the venue’s agreement.
