Hog roast hire in Mill Green

Hog roast hire in Mill Green, carved to order

We roast the hog at your event, not in a kitchen miles away, which means it’s carved hot, with crisp crackling. Add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options if you like. We’re frequently asked to cater weddings and receptions and christmas parties, with new potatoes, coleslaw and salads.

Somewhere like Mill Green, a yard or firm field frequently works. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we’ll give you the allergen information for every dish.

Planning the cooking spot

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • A way to wheel the roaster to the spot
  • A marquee, hall or barn as a wet-weather plan
  • Permission from the venue or landowner

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before you book.

Allergies and dietary needs

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Count anyone who does not eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • We do not offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it’s needed
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled

Let us know if the day runs late: we can hold the roast for a while.

How we price a hog roast

There is no fixed price list, since every event is different. What matters most:

  • Access to the cooking area
  • Menu choices and extras
  • Whether you want china
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site

The main driver is numbers: bigger groups typically cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Getting an accurate quote

To get the best quote, send us:

  • The venue or postcode
  • Dietary requirements
  • Your menu choices
  • Rules from the venue or landowner

To get a quote, just tell us the date, where the event is and roughly how many. A picture of the cooking area helps. Use our quote form.

Questions from Mill Green

Can you do a hog roast in New Greenham Park?

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Check with them first.

What’s the nearest station to Mill Green?

The closest is Thatcham station, roughly 2 miles away.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. Serving indoors is typically fine if the venue is happy.

Do you provide china?

We supply plates as standard. China is available at an extra cost.

Is crackling included?

Crackling is part of every roll for anyone who wants it.

Do you need power or water?

Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it’s several hours. You will know our arrival time in advance.

What space does the roaster need?

A flat, open spot outside, and a way to wheel everything in. Send us a picture if you’re unsure.

A closer look at the menu

Rotisserie chicken

Chicken from the rotisserie gives people a non-pork choice, roasted until golden.

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Our vegan option is a vegan burger or sausage, in a roll, with salad on the side.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with food vans, a hog roast feeds a crowd quickly from one roast. Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so each one is itemised. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

What you get with us

  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Timed around your day

The process

Service is quick once we start carving: the chef carves and the team serves, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. Around midsummer it stays light in Mill Green until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening service is generally in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We check the date and the cooking spot, then send a quote.
  3. We agree timings and where the roaster goes.
  4. We roast slowly on site, then carve for your guests.
  5. We serve, tidy up and leave the spot clean.

Before we arrive

  • Have a level outdoor spot ready
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Send final numbers in good time

For planners, venues and organisers

Marquee suppliers generally set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so it’s worth asking first. We’ll liaise with them on access and set-up.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
