What we serve, dish by dish

Roast pork

Hours of slow roasting make the pork soft and full of flavour, and our chef carves it to order.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

A hog roast roll is designed to be eaten in the hand. Gluten-free rolls can be provided on request.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

If your venue does its own catering, ask whether outside caterers are allowed for evening food. Some venues charge a fee. Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. Every event gets its own quote, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

Why book with us

Your questions about a hog roast for your wedding in Mill Green

Is Mill Green close to London?

Roughly 50 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

Can you cater after a service at Church of St Peter?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Tell us where you’ll gather.

What’s the price?

Numbers, menu and travel decide the price. Tell us your date and we’ll send a price.

Can you work around our timings?

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.

Do you bring plates?

We bring plates as standard. If you’d like china, ask and we’ll add it to the quote.

Where do you cook at a marquee wedding?

We cook outside, never inside the marquee.

What happens in bad weather?

We roast under cover, so the food is not affected. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

Can we just hire the roaster?

Yes, for confident cooks. We will explain the details with your quote.

How to compare hog roast caterers

What affects the price in Mill Green

Things that change the price:

  • Crockery choices
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Which meats and sides you choose

Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote, with any London charges listed. Give us the address for an accurate figure.

What we need to know

When you enquire, please mention:

  • The address or postcode
  • The date and time of the event
  • Your menu choices
  • Allergies we should know about

Numbers not final yet? A rough figure is fine for a first quote, and you can confirm nearer the time. Use our quote form.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. A few tips:

  • Note which guests don’t eat pork, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten

Give us your venue coordinator’s details, for access and timings.

For a sit-down meal, ask for china, quoted separately.

Catered or do it yourself?

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is usually easier.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

How the day works

The secret is time: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin turns into crackling. It rests for a short while before carving. Golden-hour photos in Mill Green at midsummer come around 9:25pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:55pm, and in late September about 7:10pm.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We check the venue and the cooking spot and send a price.
  3. We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. We cook through the day and serve right on cue.
  5. Our staff clear the serving area and we leave quietly.

Preparing for the day

  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
