How our hog roast hire works in Mimbridge

We roast the hog at your event, not in a kitchen miles away, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp when it is served. Add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options if you like. We’re often asked to cater gatherings after a funeral and milestone birthdays, serving new potatoes, spit-roast lamb and salads.

In a hamlet or village like Mimbridge, a farmyard or a neighbour’s field can make a good cooking spot. Mention gates and soft ground when you contact us. Your quote spells out what’s included: serving times, the menu, staff and anything else agreed.

The process

On the day, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. Around midsummer it stays light in Mimbridge until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening service is usually in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. You get an availability check and a clear quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day we roast for hours, then carve to order.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we pack away.

Before we arrive

  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Name a contact for the day
  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand

Should I cook it myself?

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Rotisserie chicken is a simple, popular alternative to pork, roasted until golden.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Compared with a plated meal, a hog roast needs no kitchen and fewer staff, which frequently makes it better value. When comparing prices, compare the same things: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. The cheapest quote is not always the best value.

Common questions in Mimbridge

Can you cater after a service at Church of St Lawrence?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

How far is Mimbridge from London?

About 24 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

When do you start roasting?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We work back from your serving time.

Will there be enough to go round?

Quantities are based on your numbers, and we’ll confirm everything in writing.

Do you bring plates?

We supply plates as standard. China is available at an extra cost.

Do you come to Mimbridge?

We do. Send us the address and we’ll check the date.

What space does the roaster need?

A flat, open spot outside, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. A photo helps.

Can we choose catered or DIY?

Either: we can cater fully or hire out the machine. Catering is the most popular choice.

How to compare hog roast caterers

Allergies and dietary needs

Not everyone eats pork, so it’s worth adding an alternative. Helpful tips:

  • Count anyone who does not eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Remember that stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests

We will be with you for a good part of the day, because the roast starts hours before you eat.

Add lamb or chicken for a second roast.

Organising for someone else?

If you’re organising for someone else, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We will keep you both updated.

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Tell us what you need and we’ll tell you what we can send.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
