About our hog roast hire in Smallfield

Our hog roast hire is fully catered: we roast, our chef carves and our staff serve. For confident cooks, the machine can be hired on its own. On the menu are rotisserie chicken, salads and coleslaw, and we’re regularly asked to cater milestone birthdays and staff days and open days.

There may be a hall or playing field near Smallfield if the garden is small; any can work, with the owner’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster. You will know what’s included before you book: the date, the serving time, the menu and the plates.

Step by step

We roast under cover, so a shower won’t spoil the food. It is worth planning a sheltered place for people to eat, too. Evenings in Smallfield stay light until about 9:20pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:05pm; once it’s dark, we need light at the carving station.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Working with your venue

Marquee suppliers typically set distances for cooking equipment, so let them know about the roaster. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Tell us what you need and we’ll tell you what we can send.

Smallfield: your questions answered

How far is Smallfield from London?

Roughly 23 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

What’s the nearest station to Smallfield?

The closest is Horley station, roughly 2 miles away.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

Several hours, depending on the size and the weather, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We work back from your serving time.

How soon do you get booked up?

Popular dates go early. But it’s always worth asking: fill in our quote form.

Will there be enough to go round?

We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we’ll talk it through when we quote.

Can you roast in the rain?

We cook under a gazebo, so rain is not a problem for the roast. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

What is hog roast hire?

We handle the roasting, carving and serving. Just give us an outdoor spot to cook.

What happens after service?

We clear the serving area and pack away, and leave the area tidy.

What the cooking area needs

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • A safe distance from walls, tents and trees
  • Flat outdoor ground for the roaster and a gazebo
  • Parking near the spot

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Read the checklist

Should I cook it myself?

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Planning for dietary needs

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:

  • Remember that stuffing usually contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Count anyone who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • We don’t offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it is needed
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We arrive hours ahead, set up, roast, carve and serve, then clear up.

We also hire out the roaster for DIY hog roasts.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
