Slow-roasted pork in Snowdown

Hog roast hire for your event in Snowdown

We roast the hog at your event, not in a kitchen miles away, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp when it’s served. Add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options if you like. On the menu are spit-roast lamb, coleslaw and halloumi skewers, and typical bookings are for christmas fairs and clubhouse events.

For a rural spot like Snowdown, a hog roast feels right at home. Let us know about access and ground conditions. Timings are planned around your event, because the roast has to start hours before you eat, so the food is ready at the right moment.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

What affects the price in Snowdown

Your quote depends on:

  • Travel to Snowdown
  • Access to the cooking area
  • How many people are eating
  • Season and day of the week

Numbers make the biggest difference: the price per head usually falls as numbers rise, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

What we need to know

To check availability and the cooking area, tell us:

  • An estimate of numbers
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Any venue rules
  • The date and when you’d like to eat

Send us the date, the address or CT15 postcode and rough numbers, along with your serving time. We will check the date and send a quote. Fill in our quote form.

Looking after everyone

Most people love a hog roast, but it is pork. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs
  • Find out who does not eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled

Name someone to meet us, who can show us the cooking spot and pass on any changes.

Sides turn a roll into a proper meal, and they’re listed in your quote.

About the food

Roast pork

Hours of slow roasting make the pork soft and full of flavour, and our chef carves it to order.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Salads, new potatoes, coleslaw and roast or jacket potatoes turn rolls into a full meal, especially at a sit-down event.

Before you choose a spot

We need room to cook safely and under cover. Things to check:

  • A sheltered place for people to eat if it rains
  • Nothing overhead that could catch the heat
  • A level, open spot outdoors for the roaster

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

Common questions in Snowdown

We are gathering after a service at St Peter: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Food is usually served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Is Snowdown too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Is it just pork?

Pork is the classic, and you can add spit-roast lamb or rotisserie chicken. There are vegetarian and vegan options as well.

Is there a non-pork option?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t provide halal meat.

Is our garden big enough?

Access and clearance matter more than size. Describe the space and we will tell you honestly.

Do you serve the food?

You do not need anyone else: our chef carves and our team serves and clears.

Do you serve the crackling?

Yes, the crackling is shared out as we carve.

Do you cover the whole of Kent?

Kent is part of our area. Ask for a quote.

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to a barbecue, a hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone, so nobody stands at a grill all afternoon. Our guide compares the two. Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

What you get with us

  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Carved to order by a chef
  • All the equipment comes with us

See our prices page and our hog roast cost guide.

How the day works

The roaster cooks outdoors, on a level, open spot under cover, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We will agree the spot with you beforehand. Planning an evening hog roast in Snowdown? Sunset is around 8:45pm in late May, 9:15pm at midsummer and 7:00pm in late September; once it is dark, we need light at the carving station.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We check the date and the cooking spot, then send a quote.
  3. We agree timings and where the roaster goes.
  4. We roast slowly on site, then carve for your guests.
  5. We serve, tidy up and leave the spot clean.

How to prepare

  • Think about shelter for your guests
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
