Hog roast hire in Southend, carved to order

We roast the hog at your event, not in a kitchen miles away, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp when it is served. Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options can go alongside. On the menu are salads, crackling and new potatoes, and we are regularly asked to cater Fêtes, fairs and shows and wakes and memorial gatherings.

Somewhere like Southend, a yard or firm field frequently works. Mention gates and soft ground when you get in touch. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we’ll give you the allergen information for every dish.

A closer look at the menu

Roast pork

Everything starts with the slow-roasted pork: carved thick or thin, as people like it, straight from the roaster.

Crackling

Crackling takes hours to get right, which is exactly what a slow hog roast gives it.

Space, access and the venue

Planning the cooking spot is the key. A quick checklist:

  • A safe distance from walls, tents and trees
  • Access for our equipment, without steps
  • A level patch of lawn, patio or hardstanding

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Catered or do it yourself?

A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is normally easier.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Planners, venues and businesses

If you’re organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We’ll keep everyone in the loop.

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so it is worth asking first. We’ll work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

The process

We work to your timings. If the day runs behind, a cooked roast can be kept hot for a while, so tell us as soon as plans change. In Southend, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 4:00pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We check the date and the cooking spot, then send a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day we roast for hours, then carve to order.
  5. We serve, tidy up and leave the spot clean.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Give us a contact number for the day
  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat

Perfect for your event in Southend

You don’t need much on your side: just an outdoor spot for the roaster. We bring the rest.

However big or small the event in Southend, a slow roast goes a long way. We’re often asked to cater:

  • Wedding breakfasts and evening food
  • Summer garden parties
  • Birthdays and anniversaries
  • Clubhouse events

After a service at St Peter's Church, the hog roast can be ready at a nearby hall or house.

Before booking anyone

  • When they arrive and when the food will be ready
  • What crockery is supplied
  • What the price includes, item by item
  • The menu, including sides and any extras

Prices and what affects them

Every booking is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • The journey to the venue
  • Numbers
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • How easy it is to reach the spot

Numbers make the biggest difference: bigger groups normally cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Details that help

When you enquire, please mention:

  • Dietary requirements
  • Rough numbers
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • A picture of the cooking area

Send us the date, the address or RG7 postcode and rough numbers, along with your serving time. We’ll confirm availability and send a price. Use our quote form.

Common questions in Southend

Is Southend too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Which station is closest to Southend?

Aldermaston station, about 2.1 miles south of the centre.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Stuffing typically contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

What about guests who don’t eat pork?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Please note we do not offer halal meat.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

Outside, always. Serving indoors is usually fine if the venue is happy.

What comes with the hog roast?

Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.

What meats can we have?

Add lamb or rotisserie chicken alongside the pork. Vegetarian and vegan options are available too.

What do you need from us on the day?

A clear, level cooking spot, a route to wheel the equipment in and a contact for the day. We will bring the rest.
