It is a simple format that suits most crowds: roast pork in a soft roll, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling, and alternatives for anyone who does not eat pork. How we price a hog roast

Each price is built from:

  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Numbers
  • Time on site
  • Plates or china

Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. Every event gets its own quote, with everything listed.

What to tell us

Here’s what we will ask:

  • Your menu choices
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Your date and serving time

Send us the date, the address or RH17 postcode and rough numbers, plus when you’d like to eat. We’ll check the date and send a quote. Send us your details through our quote form.

Planning the cooking spot

Planning the cooking spot is the key. Check these:

  • A marquee, hall or barn as a wet-weather plan
  • A step-free route to wheel the equipment in
  • Permission from the venue or landowner

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before you book.

Step by step

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. Because the roast takes hours, daylight is worth planning: around Warninglid, it stays light until about 9:20pm at midsummer, while in December the light goes at about 3:55pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

Getting ready for the day

  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance

Working with your venue

Venues often have rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and tell us what they ask for.

If you are a venue or event planner, we can fit around your other suppliers, sharing timings and a site plan.

Warninglid: your questions answered

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the South Downs National Park?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Is Warninglid close to London?

Roughly 34 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

What if things run late?

Within reason, we can. Give us a contact on the day and we’ll fit around changes.

Do you cook it or do we?

Either: fully catered, where we roast, carve and serve, or DIY machine hire. Most people choose catering.

How much will it be?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how long we’re on site. Tell us your date and we’ll send a price.

What’s included?

Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Your quote lists any sides and extras.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we’ll bring them. You’ll get allergen details for everything.

How do you work out quantities?

Quantities are based on your numbers, and we’ll confirm everything in writing.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Rolls and stuffing generally contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. A few more tips:

  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled
  • Remember that stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We arrive hours ahead, set up, roast, carve and serve, and our staff clear the serving area afterwards.

China crockery is available on request, at an extra cost.

What we serve, dish by dish

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Coleslaw is the natural partner for a pork roll, while salads and potatoes make a plated meal.

Roast pork

Slow-roasted pork is the heart of the menu: carved in front of you, a mix of shoulder and leg, and served hot.

Why choose a hog roast in Warninglid?

Compared with a barbecue, one roast feeds everyone at once, so nobody stands at a grill all afternoon. See our guide to hog roast or barbecue. Midweek and quieter months are frequently easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Tell us your budget and we will suggest what works.

Why book with us

  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
