Planning for dietary needs

Some guests will not eat pork, so plan an alternative. Helpful tips:

  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • We do not offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it is needed
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs

Expect us to be on site for much of the day, since slow roasting starts early.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

Hog roast hire for your event in Wildridings

In Wildridings, we cater birthdays, weddings, staff days and fêtes. Whatever the occasion, the format is the same: slow roasting at your venue, then carving and serving. On the menu are hog roast rolls, coleslaw and halloumi skewers, and we’re regularly asked to cater christmas fairs and Fêtes, fairs and shows.

A place like Wildridings often has a village hall, a recreation ground or a pub garden nearby; any can host a hog roast with permission. Our chef carves in front of your guests, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp.

How the day works

A hog roast is always cooked outside, under a gazebo on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We will agree the spot with you beforehand. Around midsummer it stays light in Wildridings until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

FAQs for Wildridings

What’s the nearest station to Wildridings?

The closest is Bracknell station, roughly 0.6 miles away.

We’re gathering after a service at St Michael and St Mary Magdalene's Church: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you’ll gather.

Can you roast in the rain?

Rain does not stop the cooking. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

Do you provide china?

We bring plates as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.

Can we just hire the roaster?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. Ask and we will talk you through it.

Do you come to Wildridings?

We do. Tell us the venue or postcode and we will check the date.

How does hog roast hire work?

We bring the roaster, roast the hog on site for hours, then our chef carves it and our staff serve, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling.

What about guests who don’t eat pork?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t provide halal meat.

Should I cook it myself?

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

What affects the price in Wildridings

We don’t use a fixed price list, because every event is different. What matters most:

  • The date and time of year
  • Travel to Wildridings
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Menu choices and extras

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Getting an accurate quote

When you get in touch, please mention:

  • Rules from the venue or landowner

Wildridings is about 1 mile south-west of Bracknell, in Bracknell Forest. We cover Wildridings and its neighbours for events. We bring hog roasts to all 41 towns and villages in Bracknell Forest, from the larger towns to small villages. You can also see our page for Reading, about 10 miles away.

Churches such as St Michael and St Mary Magdalene's Church rarely have room for a roaster, but a hall or home close by normally does. For guests coming by train, Bracknell station, about 0.6 miles north-east, is the nearest station.

For events in RG12, we just need to know where the roaster can cook. That could mean an event in a garden on Mill Lane, Frog Lane and Rectory Lane or the roads around them, wherever there’s an outdoor spot for the roaster. With the A3095 close by, Wildridings is easy for us to reach with the roaster. We also bring hog roasts to events in Easthampstead (1 mile south-east), Bracknell (1 mile north-east), Harmans Water (1 mile east), Amen Corner (1 mile west) and Priestwood (1 mile north). For event organisers in Wildridings

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

Booking for a club or group? One clear contact makes everything easier, especially on the day.

What comes off the roaster

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Some guests will be vegetarian, so halloumi and vegetable skewers ensure they’re not left with just salad.

Rotisserie chicken

Rotisserie chicken is a simple, popular alternative to pork, turned until the skin is golden.

What the cooking area needs

The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Before booking, check:

  • Access for our equipment, without steps
  • Permission from the venue or landowner
  • Somewhere nearby to park our vehicle

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before you book.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with a cold buffet, hot roast pork carved in front of you is a different experience. A buffet can sit out all afternoon. When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote is not always the best value.
