Hog roast hire for College Town
Your questions about a hog roast in College Town
Could you cook in Sandhurst Memorial Park?
Only if the landowner, typically the council, allows it. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.
Is College Town close to London?
About 31 miles from central London, and well within our area.
Can you roast in the rain?
Rain does not stop the cooking. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.
Does the roaster have to be outside?
The roaster always stays outside, under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is frequently possible, with the venue’s agreement.
How do we prepare?
Only the space and a contact number. We bring the roaster, cover and serving kit.
Do you clear up?
Our staff clear the serving area, so you’re not left with the mess.
How soon do you get booked up?
Summer Saturdays and December book up first. Quieter dates can frequently be booked at shorter notice. Send your date and we’ll check.
How long does a hog roast take to cook?
It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it’s several hours. We will confirm our arrival time when we quote.
Hog roast hire in College Town, slow-roasted on site
Hog roast hire means a whole pig roasted slowly at your venue, over several hours, outdoors under cover. When it’s ready, our chef carves it and our staff serve it in soft rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and a piece of crackling. We serve coleslaw, halloumi skewers and salads, and we’re often booked for sports clubs and societies and weddings and receptions.
For a place the size of College Town, your own garden is often the best venue: space to cook, no venue hire and no cooking for you. Tell us about access down the drive or side of the house. Our chef carves in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling.

Looking after everyone
Rolls and stuffing generally contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. A few more tips:
- Put the menu on the invitation
- We don’t offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it’s needed
- Add a dietary question to your invitations
- Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
We will agree a contact for the day, ideally not the host, so you can enjoy yourself.
Add lamb or chicken for a second roast, priced in the quote.

How it works
On the day, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. It then roasts slowly for several hours, timed so it is ready when you want to eat. By late September, sunset in College Town is around 7:05pm, and in December it is nearer 3:55pm. For anything after that, plan lights for the serving area.
- It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
- We check availability and the space for the roaster and send a clear quote.
- We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
- We carve and serve when you’re ready to eat.
- Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.
Before we arrive
- Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
- Measure the narrowest gate or passage
- Choose someone to meet us on arrival

A hog roast compared with other options
Next to a barbecue, one roast feeds everyone at once, so nobody stands at a grill all afternoon. Our guide compares the two. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Catered or do it yourself?
You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.
A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.
About the food
Salads, potatoes and coleslaw
Crunchy coleslaw suits roast pork, while salads and potatoes make a plated meal.
Rotisserie chicken
Chicken from the rotisserie gives people a non-pork choice, roasted until golden.
- Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
- Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
- Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
- Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
