How our party hog roast works in Avery Hill

A hog roast works for street parties as well, once the road closure or permission is in place. We are often asked to cater getting-engaged parties and milestone birthdays, with coleslaw, rotisserie chicken and a vegan burger or sausage.

In Avery Hill, a party at home is the usual choice, and access is the question. With no side passage, a rear gate or front garden may work. Send us a picture. We bring plates as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

How it works

The roaster is gas-fired, so we don’t need mains power to cook. At midsummer, it’s light in Avery Hill until about 9:20pm, which gives a garden party a long evening. In late September it is dark by about 7:05pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. Send us your party date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check the date and the garden or drive, then send a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours ahead and start the roast under cover.
  4. When it’s time to eat, the chef carves and we serve.
  5. We clear up and pack away.

Preparing for the day

  • Think about shelter for your guests
  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps

Catered or do it yourself?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.

Before you choose a spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, so a few things are worth checking:

  • A gazebo, marquee or room indoors for guests if it rains
  • Space away from the house, fences, sheds and trees
  • Access for the roaster through a gate or passage

Avery Hill is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access can be tight: let us know how we reach the cooking spot and where we can park.

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

How to compare hog roast caterers

Your questions about a hog roast for your party in Avery Hill

Which station is closest to Avery Hill?

Falconwood station, about 0.6 miles north of the centre.

Can you cater after a service at Church of Holy Trinity?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Send us the address.

Can we hire the hog roast machine for our party?

If you’re happy to roast and carve, yes. Catering is the easier option.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We work back from your serving time.

Can we just hire the roaster?

DIY machine hire is available. We will confirm what comes with it and how to use it.

Will a hog roast fit in our garden?

Tell us about the garden and the access, and we will tell you if it works.

What if things run late?

Within reason, we can. Give us a contact on the day and we’ll fit around changes.

Who serves?

You do not need anyone else: we carve, serve and tidy up.

Prices and what affects them

Things that change the price:

  • Whether you want china
  • Access to the cooking area
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays

Numbers make the biggest difference: the price per head generally falls as numbers rise, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Details that help

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • An estimate of numbers
  • The date and time of the event

When you’re weighing up caterers, check what each quote actually includes. Ours lists it clearly. To get yours, send us your details through our quote form.

Planners, venues and businesses

If you’re organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, let us know who we will deal with on the day. We will keep you both updated.

If the event is on someone else’s land, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
