Party hog roast in Newhaven, slow-roasted on site

For a relaxed party, you can hire the machine and cook it yourself. Most people choose the catered option, so they can enjoy the party. For big family get-togethers and street parties, we’ll put together a menu of rotisserie chicken, a vegan burger or sausage and coleslaw for your guests.

Birthdays, christenings and summer parties in Newhaven frequently happen at home or in a local hall. A hog roast suits both, as long as there is space outside. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

Planning for dietary needs

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Collect dietary needs when guests reply
  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Check the allergen list, as stuffing usually contains gluten
  • Plan separately for anyone who needs halal food

We get there early to start the roast, so it’s cooking when guests arrive.

Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed.

The process

Expect a calm, organised set-up. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, use the cooking spot you’ve chosen, and get on with roasting and serving. In Newhaven, late May sunsets come at about 8:50pm and midsummer ones at about 9:15pm, so an early-evening carve is usually in daylight. After about 3:55pm in December, we need light to carve.

  1. Tell us about your party: date, address and numbers.
  2. We check the space and send a price.
  3. We set up hours ahead.
  4. At food time, the chef carves and we serve.
  5. We clear the serving area and go.

How to prepare

  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Name a contact for the day
  • Let us know about tight access

How much room do you need?

Roast pork

We carve as we serve, so it stays hot and juicy right to the last roll.

A hog roast or other catering?

Hire the machine or book catering? DIY hire works for relaxed get-togethers; catering suits bigger parties. Distance is part of the price: travel is included in your quote. Give us the address so the quote is accurate.

What you get with us

  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • An itemised quote
  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests

Read our pricing or our hog roast cost guide.

Catered or do it yourself?

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Organising for someone else?

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before booking. We’ll work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Ask early, and pass on anything they need from us.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
