Party hog roast in Brighton, slow-roasted on site

For a christening or naming day in Brighton, a hog roast in the garden feeds the whole family, without anyone stuck cooking. We’re frequently asked to cater christenings and naming days and back-garden get-togethers, serving coleslaw, apple sauce and crackling.

A large place like Brighton has lots of party venues, but home is often the best venue. Tell us about side access. We bring plates as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Brighton parties: what to know

Brighton is in Brighton and Hove. We cater parties of every size in Brighton. We cover 30 places in Brighton and Hove, from the larger towns to small villages.

Historic houses near Brighton include Royal Pavilion (0.8 miles south-west) and Preston Manor & Gardens (1.1 miles north-west). Grand settings like these frequently have strict rules on caterers, so for most parties a garden or hired hall is simpler. A christening at St Martin's Church followed by a hog roast at home is a simple, popular plan. The South Downs National Park is within about 7 miles of Brighton, so a garden party here comes with a lovely backdrop. Near the coast, within about 2 miles, gardens can catch the wind, and we always plan for it.

We cater parties across BN1, BN2 and BN3. Local streets include London Road, Isetta Square and Pelham Square; a party on any of them works well with outdoor space and a way in. Main roads around Brighton include the A23 and A259, so getting the roaster to your party is simple. If your venue is just outside Brighton, we also cover Hanover (1 mile south), Carlton Hill (1 mile south), West Hill (1 mile west), Hollingdean (1 mile north) and Seven Dials (1 mile west). Further out, we also cater in Brighton and Hove (3 miles west), Aldrington (3 miles west), Hangleton (3 miles west), Saltdean (4 miles south-east), East Saltdean (5 miles south-east) and Rottingdean (3 miles south-east). As one of the bigger places in Brighton and Hove, Brighton has plenty of venues, halls and workplaces.

Well-known places in the area include Brighton General Hospital (0.7 miles east) and Old Police Cells Museum (1 mile south-west). Open spaces near Brighton include Newmarket Hill and Whitehawk Hill.

  • Nearby schools include Brighton Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College (0.9 miles west) and Academy of Creative Training (0.9 miles south)
  • Pubs nearby include Park Crescent pub (less than half a mile north-west)

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with a restaurant booking, you keep the party at home, with room for everyone. Distance is part of the price: travel is included in your quote, with any London charges listed. Give us the address for an accurate figure.

Why Brighton hosts choose us

  • Planned to your running order
  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • We bring everything to cook and serve

See how we price or our hog roast cost guide.

Should I cook it myself?

You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

What we serve, dish by dish

Crackling

For many people, the crackling is the best bit: crisp, golden and full of flavour, straight off the hog.

Rotisserie chicken

Chicken off the rotisserie, carved or jointed goes into rolls or onto plates alongside the pork.

Looking after everyone

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:

  • Tell us how many vegetarians and vegans to expect
  • Remember stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Find out who does not eat pork so we can bring chicken or a vegetarian option
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them

We get there early to start the roast, so it is cooking when guests arrive.

Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed.

Brighton questions

Can you roast near the sea around Brighton?

Yes. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

Do you cater at venues in the South Downs National Park?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We will work to whatever the site needs.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. Serving inside is frequently possible, with the venue’s agreement.

Who serves?

Our chef carves and our staff serve, and we clear up when service is finished.

Is a hog roast good for a children’s party?

Yes, and tell us how many children are coming, so we get the amounts right.

Is mains power needed?

No, the roast is cooked on gas. Let us know what’s on site.

Can you do gluten-free?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Ask for the allergen list, as stuffing normally contains gluten.

Do you leave the area tidy?

Our staff clear up after service, leaving the spot as we found it.

Step by step

It’s a relaxed, well-organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up where we have agreed, and roast, carve and serve without fuss. A summer party in Brighton stays light until about 9:15pm at midsummer, so a garden party can run well into the evening. By late September sunset is around 7:05pm, so plan festoon lights for later parties.

  1. Start with the date, the address and roughly how many.
  2. We check the garden or drive and quote.
  3. We set up hours ahead.
  4. We carve and serve at food time.
  5. We tidy up and pack away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Ensure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before

How to get a price

Planning help

For planners, venues and organisers

Marquee suppliers normally set distances for cooking equipment, so let them know about the roaster. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

  • Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
