Hosting a hog roast party in Brighton and Hove

Brighton and Hove is in England. Hosts in Brighton and Hove book us for parties of all sizes. We cover all 30 towns and villages in Brighton and Hove.

A christening at Holy Cross Church followed by a hog roast at home is a simple, popular plan. Thinking of a hog roast in Hove Park? Cooking in a park needs the owner’s permission, typically the council’s, and many parks do not allow it. Brighton and Hove is within about 7 miles of the South Downs National Park, so a garden party here comes with a lovely backdrop. Near the coast, within about 3 miles, gardens can catch the wind, and we always plan for it.

Anywhere in BN3, BN41 and BN1, we can bring the roaster to you. Streets in the area include New Church Road, Princes Square and Station Road, and a party on any of them works with a garden, drive or yard for the roaster. With the A270 and A293 close by, Brighton and Hove is simple for us to get to with the roaster. Other places close to Brighton and Hove we cover include Aldrington (1 mile south-west), West Blatchington (1 mile north-east), Hove (1 mile south-east), Prestonville (2 miles east) and Brunswick (2 miles south-east). Party hog roast in Brighton and Hove, slow-roasted on site

For a relaxed party, you can hire the machine and cook it yourself. Most hosts prefer us to do it, so they can enjoy the party. For 18th, 21st, 40th, 50th and 60th birthdays and retirement parties, we can cook hog roast rolls, crackling and rotisserie chicken and more.

Garden parties are a favourite in Brighton and Hove, with a local hall or club as a good back-up. We need a level spot away from the house. We bring the people to serve and clear up, so you are not left handing out rolls or tidying up afterwards.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before booking.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Some guests won’t eat pork, so it is worth adding an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Collect dietary needs when guests reply
  • Halal isn’t offered, so arrange it separately if needed
  • Let us know roughly how many children
  • Ask us to label vegetarian and vegan food

Warn the neighbours: roasting takes hours and the smell travels.

A string of lights by the carving station looks great as it gets dark.

Common questions in Brighton and Hove

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the South Downs National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We will follow the site rules.

Which station is closest to Brighton and Hove?

Aldrington station, in Brighton and Hove itself.

Is our garden suitable?

Often, yes, if there’s a level spot away from the house and trees, and a way to wheel the equipment through. Send us a picture.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is frequently possible, with the venue’s agreement.

Do you clear up?

Our staff clear the serving area, and we take our equipment with us.

How do you work out quantities?

We size the roast to your numbers, so tell us your best estimate. We’ll confirm the menu in the quote.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We do not offer halal meat.

Do you bring plates?

We supply plates as standard. China is available at an extra cost.

Step by step

Slow roasting is the whole point: the meat cooks gently until it’s tender while the skin turns into crackling. It rests for a short while before carving. A summer party in Brighton and Hove stays light until about 9:20pm at midsummer, so a garden party can run well into the evening. By late September sunset is around 7:05pm, so plan festoon lights for later parties.

  1. Start with the date, the address and roughly how many.
  2. We check the garden or drive and quote.
  3. We arrive early and get the roast going.
  4. At food time, the chef carves and we serve.
  5. We tidy up and pack away.

How to prepare

  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before

Should I cook it myself?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

What comes off the roaster

Roast pork

Hours of slow roasting make the pork soft and full of flavour, and our chef carves it to order.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

We can serve in rolls or on plates, and gluten-free rolls are available on request.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with a buffet, a hog roast is hot and freshly carved. The main driver is numbers: bigger groups usually cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Why book our hog roast in Brighton and Hove

  • No surprises: everything in writing
  • Our staff serve and clear
  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit

Choosing a hog roast caterer

What affects the price in Brighton and Hove

Here’s what affects the price:

  • How long the roast and service take
  • Whether you want china
  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • Season and day of the week

For larger numbers, a hog roast is usually good value, because one whole roast feeds a lot of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.
