How our party hog roast works in The Valley

A hog roast makes a party at home feel special. We set up in your garden or on the drive, roast slowly for hours and carve when you are ready, so you can enjoy your own party. Whether it is street parties and engagement parties, we will put together a menu of a vegan burger or sausage, coleslaw and rotisserie chicken for your guests.

In a small place like The Valley, a party in the garden or a nearby field is frequently the plan. Tell us about lanes and ground, and we will plan the route. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we’ll tell you exactly what’s in each dish.

The process

The roaster is gas-fired, so cooking does not depend on mains power. Sunset in The Valley is about 8:45pm in late May and 9:15pm in late June, so most summer parties eat in daylight. After about 3:50pm in December, we need light to carve.

  1. Send a picture of where the roaster could go.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. On the day, we roast slowly under cover.
  4. We serve when you’re ready.
  5. We clear up so you do not have to.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to a party buffet, a hog roast is hot and freshly carved. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, and the quote reflects that.

Why us?

  • Carved to order by a chef
  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours

Read our pricing and what a hog roast costs.

Allergies and dietary needs

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. Here are a few tips:

  • Add a dietary question to the invite
  • Think about children’s portions
  • Remember stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Keep the vegetarian option labelled

On the day, we arrive hours before the party starts, so the smell is the first thing guests notice.

Sides turn rolls into a proper party meal.

Space, access and the venue

Most outdoor spaces can work if a few things are right. Here’s what we look for:

  • Clearance from walls, fences and overhanging branches
  • Neighbours warned about the smell
  • Parking close to the house

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly before booking.

What affects the price in The Valley

We don’t use a fixed price list, since every event is different. What matters most:

  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Distance from us

For larger numbers, a hog roast is typically good value, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.

What we need to know

When you enquire, please mention:

  • Where the event is
  • Rough numbers
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • What the outdoor space is like

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, plus when you’d like to eat. We’ll confirm availability and send a price. Send us your details through our quote form.

The menu, dish by dish

Roast pork

Hours of slow roasting make the pork soft and full of flavour, and our chef carves it to order.

Crackling

Crackling is what people queue for: golden, crunchy and salty.

Organising for someone else?

Marquee hire companies frequently have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

If the event is on someone else’s land, you’ll need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.
