Wedding hog roast near Ashey

Not every guest eats pork, so we plan for that: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers and a vegan option. We do not offer halal meat. Typical bookings include vow renewals and blessings and weddings in a family garden, with new potatoes, crackling and salads.

Near Ashey, weddings are frequently in fields, barns or gardens. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. Tell us about dietary needs and allergies when you enquire, and we will tell you exactly what’s in each dish.

Can you roast near the sea around Ashey?

Can you do our evening wedding food?

It is one of our most popular wedding bookings. Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling go down well after dancing.

Is crockery included?

We bring plates as standard. If you’d like china, ask and we’ll add it to the quote.

How far ahead should we book?

Looking after everyone

You will get allergen information for everything we serve. To make the most of it:

  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Give your coordinator the final menu
  • Remember that stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Put a dietary question on the invitation

You won’t have to think about the food. We arrive hours before serving, roast through the day and carve on cue.

Salads, new potatoes and roast potatoes make a full wedding breakfast.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. In Ashey, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:10pm, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it is dark by about 4:00pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.

  1. We start with your date, venue, numbers and running order.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking spot are agreed with you and the venue coordinator.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue.
  5. Our staff clear the serving area and we leave quietly.

How to prepare

  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Have a level outdoor spot ready
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before

Prices and what affects them

Things that change the price:

  • Distance from us
  • Crockery choices
  • Menu choices and extras
  • How long the roast and service take

Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. Every event gets its own quote, so you know exactly what you are paying for.

Details that help

To check availability and the cooking area, we will need:

  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Dietary requirements
  • Your date and serving time
  • What the outdoor space is like

Busy weekends book up early, especially summer Saturdays and December Fridays. Tell us your date and we’ll check it: use our quote form.

Full catering or machine hire?

If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Is a hog roast right for your wedding?

A common mix is a plated meal followed by an evening hog roast; others have the hog roast as the main event. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. A long, slow roast means an early start, and the quote reflects that.

Why Ashey hosts choose us

  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • Carved to order by a chef
  • Staff to serve, so you do not have to
  • Timed around your day

What we serve, dish by dish

Spit-roast lamb

Adding lamb gives people a choice of two roasts, which works well for larger groups.

Stuffing and apple sauce

Sharp, sweet apple sauce and savoury sage and onion stuffing go with the pork perfectly. Stuffing normally contains gluten.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
